We did it! Horizon Honors Elementary has officially earned our NO PLACE FOR HATE® designation for the 2020-2021 school year! We are so proud of all of your hard work, especially during a global pandemic!
Join us on Friday, May 14th for National No Place for Hate Day 2021 to acknowledge the hard work of students, educators, parents and the entire community by taking over social media with #noplaceforhate.

Here's the plan: Have everyone in our school community - students, educators and parents -  show up online on Friday, May 14, 2021 and follow these 3 steps:

1.  BE CREATIVE! Post a photo or a brief video - under 1-minute, with a caption or a text post on your social media accounts that answers the following question: "This past year, how were you an ally in your school or community?

2. Include #noplaceforhate in your caption. For Instagram stories, we've created a No Place for Hate sticker - just search NPFH!

3.   Tag ADL’s national social media accounts by including these handles:
  • Facebook: @anti.defamation.league, @ADL.Arizona
  • Instagram: @adl_national, @adl_arizona
  • Twitter: @ADL, @ADLArizona
On May 28th we will send home pictures of all books, including prices, that will be at the book fair.

You will have until June 4th to look over the list. You can create your "order" from those pictures and email your orders to Mindy Duet. Order forms will be sent with the pictures.

June 1st - 4th in-person classes will visit the fair. During this time, they will be able to see what is available and fill out a list of their "wishes."  All books will be covered with a clear covering so that multiple students will NOT be touching the same surfaces.

This book fair will have BOOKS only. ALL books are BUY one GET one FREE of equal or lesser value.

In order to keep everyone safe, we will be using eWallet for ALL transactions.  eWallet is safe and easy to use.

  • Set up an account.
  • Add funds to the account and your student can purchase books at the book fair!
  • We will receive a list of students & the amount of funds, so students do NOT need to bring anything with them.
  • All sales will have tax added to them 8.6%.

The BOGO book fair is a clearance sale. We can request titles but there are NO guaranteed titles at this book fair. Please include a second choice in case your 1st choice is no longer available. We will timestamp ALL orders to make sure that orders are filled as they are received.

Orders placed via email, can be picked up or delivered to the classroom. Please indicate how you would like to receive books.  Please reach out if there is a specific title you would like for me to request.

Angst, Raising Awareness around Anxiety

Available May 17th - 23rd

Please look for an email from Horizon Honors News May 17th. The film and discussion will last 1 hour and 40 minutes. It is suggested for ages 10+ but all families are welcome to view.
On top of academic and social stress, the uncertainty and fears of this past pandemic year have brought all of us a lot more anxiety than before. Angst helps break this down, explaining what’s going on, and what we can do to help both ourselves and others. It features World Champion Swimmer Michael Phelps, experts in the field, and regular teenagers.
COVID-19 REMINDERS

Siblings of Sick Students:
If a student is sick AND/OR awaiting COVID-19 testing results, we require all siblings to also remain at home.

Drop Off:
We are excited to allow Elementary School parents to walk their students onto the campus in the mornings! However, please remember that all parents (and students) are required to wear a mask while on campus grounds, even if they are not going inside our buildings.

Stronger Together:
If you would like to check our case count or find information on mitigation strategies, the information is always available on "Stronger Together" website.

If you have any questions or need to report a possible COVID-19 case, please reach out to our Health Office at health@horizonhonors.org. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep our community members healthy and our campus open.
FACE COVERINGS UPDATE:

Use of face coverings for STUDENTS and STAFF will be optional during the following activities:

  • Outdoor Physical Education classes
  • Outdoor recess
  • Outdoor lunch breaks (beyond when students are not eating)

Use of face coverings for STAFF will be optional during the following activities:

  • Outdoor duties when not in close proximity to other community members (Ex: traffic duty)

Please note that face coverings are still required for all community members during pick up, drop off, and during class transition times when students may be walking outside. Also, face coverings will continue to be required inside campus buildings until further notice.

These decisions were made due to the improved COVID metrics and concerns regarding the health of students and staff wearing a mask outside as the weather becomes hot.

Please pack extra face coverings in student backpacks, as coverings may get dirty during the day. Again, the schools will not supply face coverings.

Face coverings MUST:
  • Fully cover a person's nose and mouth.
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face and under the chin.
  • Remain affixed in place without the use of one's hands.
  • Not have holes except for band-style masks when actively playing an instrument.
  • Not be face shields. However, face shields may be used in addition to a face covering.
  • Follow the "all clothing and accessory guidelines" dress code guidelines. Elementary School Dress Code
  • Be laundered regularly or disposed of appropriately.
