Addison Reed and Reed Training & Sales Goliath turned in a repeat winning performance in the $10,000.00 Welcome Stake 1.35 m, besting a field of 13 horse and rider teams.

As the first to go, Reed and Goliath turned in double clear rounds with a second-round time of 34.232 seconds which set the new time to beat. None would beat that time.

“It’s one of those things, ever since I was a kid I didn’t like to go first. My mom [Sulu] would try to encourage me and say, ‘first in, first out’ and we still say that all the time," said Reed.

"I guess now, it has less to do when I go in the class than my relationship I have with that horse. I’ve had Goliath for a long time, and I know that I can go in and keep cantering and most of the time, it will work out for us. Now I know that when I see his name first on the order of go, I don’t get nervous anymore, because I know he can win that class no matter where his name is on the list. I like to win as much as the next rider, so I knew that going first I was going to have to go a little faster. The goal is to go as fast as fast as you can and leave all the jumps up, and that's what we did."

Gene Frank of The Plains, Virginia aboard his own Isaak VDL, followed in the order and advanced to a second round. However, four faults in a time of 38.584 seconds would earn them an eighth placing.

Nick Stuart of Mebane, North Carolina and Across Town Farm, LLC’s Jaspar were up next and after posting double clear rounds with a second-round time of 39.096 seconds, finished in fifth overall.

Rolling Acres’ ZaZa Z and Marylisa Leffler of Brookeville, Maryland were up next. The pair turned in double clear rounds and with a second-round time of 35.600, moved into second place.

Sarah Hellman’s Perfect Match D, ridden by Tiffany Cambria of Upperville, Virginia turned in a four fault first round in 65.598 seconds and finished in tenth overall.

Kendra Pierce of Reading, Pennsylvania and her own Printings Pola Z followed Cambria, turning in double clear rounds with a second-round time of 36.285 seconds, earning a third place. Reed returned to the Dee Dee Arena, this time in the irons of Reed Training & Sales’ Kletcher, and earned four faults in their first round with a time of 69.595 seconds, finishing in twelfth.

Damian Gomez of Middleburg, Virginia and Emma Boyce’s Cuathemoc earned six time faults in their second round and placed ninth overall.

Keina, owned by Sanmar Farm and also ridden by Reed, finished in eleventh overall after earning four jump faults in a time of 67.756 seconds. Andrew Ross of Reinholds, Pennsylvania and his own Cornet’s Cobalt finished in sixth overall with a with a time of 39.523 seconds.

Cullen Drescher of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Speckhart Sporthorses, LLC’s Gerry Butler finished in seventh turning in double clear rounds and second round time of 43.621 seconds, and Reed and Doc Di Villigana, owned by Reed Training & Sales, finished in fourth after turning in double clear rounds with a second-round time of 38.977.

HUNTER HIGHLIGHTS

Chime, owned by Marylisa Leffler, LLC and ridden by Marylisa Leffler, won the Hi Performance 3’9” Green Hunter Division Championship.

According to Leffler, “We imported her and have had her since the Baby Greens, and she’s been with us the whole time. She’s very special to me and I bought her the first week of March. Honestly, we just get along and I came to terms that she was just a one-person horse. She’s a beautiful mover, I love her jump and really have a blast riding her.”

Between the hunter rings and the jumper rings, Leffler has been busy. “I’m so busy, I didn’t even have a chance to walk the 1.30 m. I asked someone to give me a quick rundown on the lines. I've been doing this so long; I can transition quickly. But the footing feels really good, and the horses are jumping great this week,” she added. “I have a new one, Gentleman Jack, who I rode in the 1.30 m. He’s eight and maybe 15.2 hands but doesn’t know he’s that small. He’s my up-and-coming horse that will help out ZaZa Z,” she said.

Reserve was awarded to EMO Stables’ Avila, ridden by Jason Berry.
