Kangaroo Kids Celebrates 33 Years!

Did you know our logo was designed to reflect our philosophy???

The child in the pouch reading emphasizes the importance of a quality education.

The pouch signifies a nurturing, caring environment for children to learn and grow.

Finally, the child gleefully riding the tail reflects our belief that enjoying the process of learning has lifelong benefits.

Help us celebrate your stories and accomplishments on our social media and use the hashtag #kk33 or by emailing to staff@kangarookidschildcare.com.

We would love to see then and now photos of your child from their days at Kangaroo Kids and a photo from current day. Also, send us what colleges they have attended, sports they have participated in, any involvement in community service projects and what awards they have won so we can feature them throughout the year!

Screen Free Week

Screen Free Week

This May 6th-12th

With the warm weather why not take Screen free week to enjoy some outside time with your family! A full week to get away from the glowing screens of computers, TVs, phones, and games, Screen-Free Week during the first week in May encourages everyone to unplug and re-engage with those around us. Screen-Free Week isn't just about avoiding our phones, televisions, tablets, and computers. It also frees us to reconnect with each other and use our minds.

Role model for your children by putting all technology devices away at dinner time and enjoy some good old fashioned family conversation time. Here some ideas of how you can spend screen free week:

It is Tick Season
Tick Alert:  Remember to check your child every day for ticks! A good time to check your child for ticks is at bath time. Use Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellents during the day which should contain: DEET, picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone. EPA’s

After You Come Indoors
Check your clothing for ticks. Ticks may be carried into the house on clothing. Any ticks that are found should be removed. Tumble dry clothes in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill ticks on dry clothing after you come indoors. If the clothes are damp, additional time may be needed. If the clothes require washing first, hot water is recommended. Cold and medium temperature water will not kill ticks.

Examine gear and pets. Ticks can ride into the home on clothing and pets, then attach to a person later, so carefully examine pets, coats, and daypacks.

Shower soon after being outdoors. Showering within two hours of coming indoors has been shown to reduce your risk of getting Lyme disease and may be effective in reducing the risk of other tickborne diseases. Showering may help wash off unattached ticks and it is a good opportunity to do a tick check.

Check your body for ticks after being outdoors. Conduct a full body check upon return from potentially tick-infested areas, including your own backyard. Use a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body. Check these parts of your body and your child’s body for ticks:
  • Under the arms
  • In and around the ears
  • Inside belly button
  • Back of the knees
  • In and around the hair
  • Between the legs
  • Around the waist

This information on how to remove a tick was gathered from ehealth and the CDC:
Use a small pair of curved forceps or tweezers. Wear some sort of hand protection such as gloves so you don't spread pathogens from the tick to your hands.

Using the tweezers, carefully flip the tick over onto its back. Grasp the tick firmly with the tweezers as close to the skin as possible. Pull gently pulling until the tick comes free. Twisting or turning the tick does not make removal easier because the mouthparts are barbed; in fact, such actions may break off the head and mouthparts, thereby increasing the chances for infection.

Once removed, don't crush the tick because you may transmit disease. Rinse it down a sink or flush it down a toilet. Consider keeping it in a tightly closed jar or taped to a piece of paper. Show the tick to the doctor if you become ill from the tick bite.

The area of the bite should leave a small crater or indentation where the head and mouthparts were embedded. If portions of the head or mouthparts remain, they should be removed by a doctor.

Thoroughly cleanse the bite area with soap and water. Observe the area for several days for development of a reaction to the bite, such as a rash or signs of infection.

Remember to wash hands thoroughly after handling any tick or instruments that touched a tick. Clean and disinfect any instruments that were used.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen:  Remember, DHS now requires written parental permission for us to put sunscreen on your child. Please sign the form in your child's class.  Please apply the first round of sunscreen before your child comes to school and teachers will apply again before going outside in the afternoon.
Life Guards Wanted/Summer Teachers
We are looking to add a few lifeguards to our summer program. If you know of anyone that might be interested please have them contact our office. We also have a few positions for summer assistants if you know of anyone 18 or over that would be interested in helping during the summer.
