Haverford Business Developments - May 2022

We have been hearing reports from businesses that they are struggling to find employees. At times some have had to close or reduce their hours due to staffing shortages. We know there are good candidates out there and we want to help make that connection. To this end, Discover Haverford is organizing a jobs fair at the CREC at Haverford Reserve on Monday, May 16th from 4:00-7:00pm.

Andy Lewis 5K Run – Sunday, September 25th (new date)

The Andy Lewis 5K Run is named in honor of an esteemed Haverford Township Commissioner who died suddenly in 2021. Andy was known for his intelligence, integrity, and kind heart. He was a strong supporter of the work of Discover Haverford.

Havertown Holiday Festival

Saturday, December 10th (Rain date 12/11), Brookline Boulevard

The Havertown Holiday Festival will be a family friendly event focused on Christmas, Hanukah, and Winter Fun! We will have costumed characters, live holiday music, story time and crafts for kids, food vendors, a beer & wine garden, a holiday marketplace, an ice sculpture demonstration, and a lit holiday tree and menorah.

Public Input Needed on Draft of Township Comprehensive Plan

A Township Comprehensive Plan is a document that outlines a plan for the proposed development of the community as well as a guide for conservation of features that are valuable to protect. It is recommended that comprehensive plans be updated every 10 years. Haverford Township last fully updated its Comprehensive Plan about 30 years, but in 2019 the Board of Commissioners hired a consultant and appointed a steering committee to undertake an update. The process has been delayed as have many other things by the Covid-19 outbreak, but a draft was recently been published by the committee for public viewing.

Supporting Documents

The first opportunity for public comment on the Plan will be at the June 9th Planning Commission meeting. There will likely be a least one other Planning Commission meeting at which the Plan will be discussed, before the Planning Commission passes its comments on to the Board of Commissioners for their adoption next fall.

Discover Haverford Welcomes Sweets on Darby

Discover Haverford welcomes Sweets on Darby which plans to open later this month at 1217 Darby Road in the Brookline Business District!

Owner Gina Szathmary grew up in Upper Darby but has lived in Havertown for the past 27 years, raising three children in Llanerch with her husband Steve. “I love the neighborhood feel of Havertown,” explains Gina, “and I am really looking forward to being a business owner in the community!”
