Extended Grace Period Ending for Premium Payments
Due to the Public Health Emergency caused by COVID-19, HMAA temporarily extended the grace period for premium payments and waived policy reinstatement fees. On September 1, 2021, HMAA will revert to the standard 30-day grace period. For example, September 2021 premiums are due on September 1, 2021. Including the grace period, clients have until September 30, 2021 to remit payment.

In addition, on September 1, 2021 HMAA will resume fees to reinstate terminated policies.

Hawaii employers can continue to provide company-paid healthcare benefits to their eligible employees under certain circumstances. Employers must continue notifying HMAA when their employees are on an approved leave of absence; this includes sick leave, FMLA, and FFCRA. They must also continue to pay monthly premiums for employees and dependents who remain covered. Please consult with your legal or other advisor as needed.
It’s Time to Prepare for Flu Season
With flu season just around the corner, it is a good time to start thinking about hosting a flu vaccination clinic at your company. From September through February, we will be offering free vaccinations to HMAA members at participating pharmacy locations, and employers may begin scheduling worksite clinics. 
  • Free worksite clinics require a minimum of 15 participants (Neighbor Island and other restrictions may apply). Clinics below the minimum participation are subject to a staffing fee.
  • Participants must be at least 14 years old.
  • Clinics are not limited to HMAA members; our pharmacy partners can bill other carriers except Kaiser.
  • Participants without health insurance coverage may still receive the flu vaccine with an out-of-pocket cost.

Use HiDoc® for Physical and Mental Health Issues
HMAA provides members with access to a local network of physicians and therapists online or by phone, day or night though our telemedicine service HiDoc®. There is no out-of-pocket cost, and you can usually speak with a physician within 30 minutes.
