 Economic Disparities: The Youth Wage Gap in Ottawa


Youth in Ottawa face a significant wage gap, with median wages close to minimum wage, limiting their economic independence and growth.


Factors include less experience and job roles. Addressing this requires better education, training, and equal pay policies, along with industry incentives for higher wages.

The SPCO is launching a Fall Employment Program to connect young talent with local organizations.


We're inviting businesses and nonprofits to partner with us in providing IT and marketing work experience for youth aged 18-30, helping to develop Ottawa’s future leaders as well as asking youth ages 18-30 to apply.

Walk of Ages


The Council on Aging of Ottawa is hosting the Walk of Ages, a fun rock ‘n’ roll-themed walk that invites people from all generations to celebrate aging. With inflatable bouncy castles, a BBQ, interactive walking activities, rock ‘n’ roll music, face painting, and more!

 

When: Saturday, September 28th

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: 815 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa (the old Rideau High School, on the field)

Rideau Community Hub


The Rideau Community Hub has a list of essential services provided by independent organizations that connects residents to community resources, and ensures increased access to valuable services for the Rideau, Vanier, and surrounding neighborhoods.


Services provided at the hub include childcare, a food bank, immigration community resources, after school programs, community advocacy, services for isolated elders, and various indigenous cultural groups to name a few.
