2022 Wood Chip Delivery List

The 2022 Wood Chip Delivery sign up begins on Sunday, January 2, 2022 only through voice mail messages received after 8:00 am. The Village voice mail system will answer multiple calls at the same time. The wood chip delivery list for the 2022 chipping season will be generated by the number the voice mail message system places your call in the system.

Call (708) 671-3721 and leave a voice mail with the following information:
1.     Name (please spell your name)
2.     Address
3.     Phone Number where Public Works can contact you before wood chips can be delivered.
4.     If you would like 1 or 2 loads delivered. (1 load = 8 yards)

The phone number you provide is very important. If we are not able to reach you on the phone number provided, we will not deliver wood chips. If your phone number changes before or during wood chip season, please contact Public Works (708) 671-3721 to update your information.

Voice mail messages left before 8:00 am on Sunday, January 2, 2022 will not be acknowledged or recorded.

Due to the high demand for wood chips each property will be limited to 2 truckloads (8 yards per truck load) per delivery. Once you receive your delivery of wood chips, you can call (708) 671-3721 to be placed on the wood chip list again to receive additional chips during 2022.
While Away In the Winter Protect Your Pipes and Water Meter from Freezing

A frozen pipe and water meter will crack and become an open source of continuous water flow into your home. Homeowners are responsible for the cost of the thousands of gallons of water that will flow into your home plus the cost of the replacement meter. Sufficient heat is necessary to protect the water meter and water pipes. If you turn down your heat, check that the lower temperature allows for sufficient heat in the area where your water meter is located to protect it and pipes from freezing. You can also wrap the exposed pipes and water meter with insulation available at most hardware stores. Another way to protect your home is to locate the inside water shut off valve before the water meter and close it down and drain all the water from your pipes. The best protection if you are leaving your home for an extended period of time is to request Public Works shut off your water at the buffalo box. There is a fee of $100.00 for shutting off water at your buffalo box. This is a low cost compared to the cost of a broken pipe or water meter due to freezing temperatures. Call (708) 671-3721 to arrange for water shut off at your home.
Travel Tips from Palos Park Police

Palos Park Officers will be on high visibility patrols on roadways during the Christmas travel period. This period is 78-hours long, from 6:00 pm Thursday, Dec. 23, until 11:59 pm on Sunday, Dec. 26. The 78-hour New Year’s holiday period will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 30, and end at 11:59 pm on Sunday, Jan. 2.

We can all agree that it is always nice to celebrate the holidays with friends and family, but please keep the well-being of other travelers at the forefront of your mind as you head out. PPPD Officers will be protecting the public on our roadways, but we depend on other drivers to do their part as well so everyone can have a safe and happy holiday!

“As more people travel the roadways to visit family and friends, Palos Park Officers will continue to focus on motorists who break traffic laws and exercise bad driving habits that could potentially cause serious injuries or fatal crashes,” said Police Commissioner Dan Polk. Polk noted, “ As travel is expected to rebound to Pre-Pandemic levels and roads are expected to be more crowded than last year, PPPD wants everyone to enjoy this holiday season with family and friends by obeying the traffic laws, staying focused on the road, and not driving impaired.”

The most important thing is to stay focused on where you are going and on the drivers around you so that crashes do not ruin your holiday festivities. If you plan to include alcohol consumption in your holiday celebrations, make sure to plan for a sober designated driver by contacting a taxi or rideshare, a friend, or a family member to help you get home safely. Make these decisions before you get into the holiday spirit.

AAA expects to respond to as many as 917,000 calls for help from the more than 100 million Americans planning to drive over the holidays. Motorists need to be prepared for slowdowns and breakdowns. AAA also states vehicles that have been driven less during the pandemic should get an inspection to check key components like the battery, fuel system, tires, brakes and fluid levels to avoid an unnecessary breakdown.

PPPD tips in preparation for your trip on the road:

  • Before You Go: Make sure all fluids (gas, coolant, oil, windshield wiper, etc.) are to their required levels; check your tire pressure including the spare tire; and check your battery, brakes, belts, hoses, filters, and lights before getting on the road.

  • Eliminate distractions while driving, including the use of mobile devices. Read, write or send an electronic message when your vehicle is stopped. If you’re using a navigation device or app, have a passenger manage it, so you can keep your eyes on the road.

  • Drive defensively, as holiday travel can present additional challenges.

  • Don’t drive fatigued — allow plenty of time to reach your destination.

  • Prepare A Car Emergency Kit: Make sure you know where you are going; check the weather and road conditions; make sure you have important numbers for emergency services programmed in your phone; make sure you have your phone charging cables, jumper cables, flashlights, snow chains, ice scraper, shovel, and tool kits; purchase or make sure your first aid kit is filled; include blankets, pillows, water and snacks for long trips and possible delays; and make sure you have your masks and hand sanitizer.

  • While on the Road pay attention to posted speed limits; make sure everyone is properly restrained in the vehicle including booster seats, keep more than a car length apart between you and the vehicle in front of you; and don’t drive impaired which includes taking medication.

  • Stay Safe and Alert: Be aware of aggressive drivers and/or impaired drivers and report them to 911.
