Apply to be a member of the Department of Systemic Equity and Inclusion Community Cabinet
A Letter from Michael Morgan:

As I strive to continue improving in the area of establishing and building strong relationships with marginalized populations, I have worked closely with our community liaison, senior leaders, and staff who work with multilingual learners and their caregivers to develop the Department of Systemic Equity and Inclusion Community Cabinet (DSEICC). The DSEICC will bring a diverse voice that represents parents and caregivers. I will meet with the DSEICC monthly and our time together will be focused on topics and matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the District. DSEICC members will be invited to share their experiences, triumphs, and concerns and are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback to the Director of Systemic Equity and Inclusion on the five identified priorities of focus and other equity-related matters for the 2021-2022 school year. With a commitment to continuous improvement and transparency, my promise is to be collaborative, informative, and deliberative in lifting our District Equity Framework.

The application to apply to serve on the DSEICC is linked here. The application timeline will run from December 7th until December 27th at 5:00 PM. All applications will be reviewed by the DSEI and selected applicants will be notified by January 7, 2022. While we would love to include every applicant, we need to limit the seats to ensure team productivity. The DSEICC will hold their respective seats through the end of the summer with a new application process beginning in the fall of the upcoming school year

Secondary Boundary & Bell Time Changes - Beginning Fall 2022
Beginning in the fall of 2022:

  • Sun Prairie West High School will open as a 9-12 grade High School
  • The Cardinal Heights building will become the District’s third middle school (serving grades 6-8) and will be called Central Heights joining Prairie View and Patrick Marsh.
  • Prairie Phoenix Academy will be relocated to the Central Heights building with a separate and dedicated space.

This will change the grades served at each middle and high school.
  • There will no longer be an upper middle school.
  • Eighth graders will be redistributed to the District’s three middle schools.
  • Ninth graders will shift to Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West High Schools.

This new configuration will eliminate one school transition for students as they progress through the grades, allowing for more stability and relationship building while attending a school.

Please check Infinite Campus to see what school your secondary students will attend next year. Click on More and then on 2022-2023 School Assignment

Since September 2020, the Secondary Boundary and Bell Time Task Force has diligently worked to recommend new boundaries for all secondary schools and to examine district-wide bell times to be effective September 2022.

Black Student Union Update
Sun Prairie High School BSU

This school year, after 18 months since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, our Black Student Union had to start over again from the beginning as incoming 10th and 11th graders were new to the campus and the leadership team in the year prior graduated in the Spring of 2021. Luckily, we were able to have Mr. Ebony Rose, now Dean of Students at SPHS as an advisor, and Chasity Collins and Cierra Sercye, SPHS class 2021, as co-advisors. At the head of student leadership for BSU is Allyson Wayland, senior, she serves as the Black Student Union President, Keynari Taylor, junior, serving as the Vice President, and Janae Kyles, senior, serving as the Social Media Relations chairperson. The main priority this Fall is providing wrap-around support for our Black student population in terms of academics, social-emotional/mental health, and a safe cultural social atmosphere for Black students to be unapologetically Black. For the Spring 2022 semester, BSU is in the works of planning trips to Milwaukee, WI, an HBCU tour in Georgia and Alabama, and a month of Black History Month events at the high school.
Annual Report
Our 2020-2021 Annual Report is complete! This piece was sent to every home in our district in order to keep our community, families, and taxpayers updated on the progress of SPASD last year. We hope that seeing a year in review reminds you of all of the great work that you and our district staff are doing on behalf of kids!
Community Schools
Teen Mentorship Program at C.H. Bird Elementary
Safe Haven Youth and Teens Mentorship Program is on the rise and is open to ages 8-16 years of age. The mentorship program is every Friday from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. The school is also available for the community to come in and shop at the food pantry and clothing closet for basics and essential items, by appointment only during that time.
Black Student Union at Patrick Marsh Middle School
Every Tuesday Assistant Principal Barrett and Site Coordinator Brian McKenzie run the BSU (Black Student Union). Some practices that we are working on are how to be respectful in the classroom and also stay on top of work outside of the classroom. We are in the beginning stages of running our BSU team, so we are doing a lot of getting to know each other and grazing the surface of being comfortable around each other.
Dudes on Duty at Westside Elementary
A program for positive male role models to hang out with our Wildcats at recess playing football, soccer, and basketball while at the same time building positive relationships with them. We plan to start with Fridays during the lunch recess times of 11:30 am - 1:30 pm beginning Friday, December 3, expand to other days during the week in 2022.
