Thursday, August 25, 2022 - Press Pause
|
|
Dear Friends in Christ,
I wanted to let you know about my new experiment for spiritual formation. I will offer short gatherings which require minimal or no preparation at times, designed to be accessible, even if you are working. I'm calling this "Press Pause," knowing that in the midst of busy lives, even a brief pause for God's sacred presence and human connection can be deeply nourishing.
Every Thursday, beginning September 15th, we'll explore spiritual content ranging from daily meditations from well-known authors to film clips, podcasts, and short articles on different theological topics. We'll open and close with prayer and have facilitated discussion, all within around 30 minutes. This will be followed by an optional 30 minutes of hang-out time. Depending on what works for your schedule, come at either 7:30am or 7:00pm. I'd love to get an idea of interest-level, so please take a moment to register here. Thank you for considering!
Peace and Blessing,
Seth+

Music at Christ Church
YES! You Are Good Enough!
Rehearsals begin Wednesday, September 7th
Did you play in the orchestra or band in high school or sing in the choir?
|
|
|
Why not bring back that love of music to Christ Church’s choir or Hand Bell group. Most people in the hand bell group never played the bells before. If you can follow along a musical staff, you can play the bells. If you love to sing, even in the shower, you can sing in the choir. In addition to the enjoyment of the music, the camaraderie of each group is special. Why not consider checking one or both of the groups.
Hand bell Choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 5:45 for 1 hour.
Regular choir meets at 7 pm the same evening until 8:30.
Rehearsals begin Wednesday September 7th. Although the groups meet weekly, absences are not a problem. Choir sings weekly during the school year and hand bells play at a service about 5 times a year usually around church holidays. Why not give them a try.
Questions? You can call me, Maureen McCabe 414-254-6483 or one of the directors:
Choir: Scott Riedel: 414-429-8967
Hand Bells: Karol Rehm: 262-617-6478

Sunday School Teacher Training
Each year, our education programming requires volunteers to be as successful as possible.
Not only that, your richness of skills and experiences helps to enhance the experiences of our young people. We need parents, never-been-parents, empty-nesters, retirees, and anyone with a passion for the discipleship of the youngest generations of the church to step up.
We will be offering up a couple opportunities for Sunday School training. One such opportunity will be on Sunday, August 28, immediately following our 9:30AM worship.Nursery/childcare help WILL BE available for that hour or so time after worship if you need it in order to attend the training.
Another opportunity will be via Zoom sometime after the August 28 training (time and date TBD depending on need).
Please prayerfully consider how you might be able to help out this year and be sure to bring your calendar along as we plug you into possible volunteer spots. - Aaron

Need Some Summer Reading?
Parents! Interested in a book about faith or parenting? There are many choices on the bookshelf outside my office. Check them out the next time you're at church!
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

|
Kid Cart!
Check out the kid cart this week! Activity
Nursery not staffed during the summer, but will be open and available for your use.
Formation resumes in the fall.

Have a Seat!

The lucky individual will have to transport the bench to their home. Please email Mary Jones with any questions,

As we all struggle with the tragedy of the war in Ukraine, we will provide a space for people in the parish to offer prayers, reflections, and artistic expression. Adults, children, families and youth are all encouraged to use the space to express their hopes, fears, and prayers. The art could be a drawing, a painting, a clay creation, a piece of music...anything that is your peace offering. Thank you for considering a submission. Send your submissions to Julie

Weekly Wagon Drive -
All Summer!
Our big weekend food drives have been so greatly appreciated by the All Peoples food pantry, but their needs persist between drives. If everyone would bring a can or two from home each week to drop in the red wagon, we could keep food flowing into the pantry. We will start this initiative this coming Sunday and run throughout the summer.
Coming to church? bring a can! The Food Pantry could especially use: Cans of SPAM, SPAGHETTI, RAVIOLI AND MAC & CHEESE! THANK YOU!

Be A Volunteer Tutor!

|
Tutor Training available!
The Local Community Organization Common Ground is partnering with MPS
in a newly funded tutoring program and needs volunteer tutors starting this fall.
Reading tutors receive training and use a research-driven, proven method (and book) to tutor 3-4th graders in reading.
The group, Forward Scholars, needs volunteers— commitment is twice a week during the scoop year, less for substitutes.
Please email Susan LaBudde who can pass on details. Info sessions can be viewed online; training sessions are 8/30 or 8/31. Details also available at the Common Ground website.

Anemone flowers attract bees!
|
|
Christ Church
Family Gardening
Pauline McCown
This garden is planted for bees and butterflies. The orange flowers in the front are a variety of butterfly weed.
Cone flowers, Guara (a summer annual), bee balm and bright colors attract the bees, who never bother me as I work beside them. Organic mulch is used and never pesticides. I knock Japanese beetles into a container of soapy water to get rid of them
If you would like to add your native and/or organic home garden to our posts. Send Ira a photo and short description by Wed. Aug 31 to be included in the next week's broadcast.

• Masks are welcome and optional
• For now, protocols for programs containing kids 4K and younger will follow the lead of WFB Schools.
• We will continue to ventilate the space with fresh air.
•We strongly encourage vaccination for all those who are eligible and we encourage the unvaccinated to wear a mask for their own protection.
• As always, our virus response will be subject to change based on new variants and other factors.
