English Classes for Adults at Bridges of Pahokee


Adult students that are desiring to learn English or improve their English skills will be able to attend West Tech classes at Bridges at Pahokee while child care (if needed) is being provided by trained staff at Bridges. Registration begins on August 9th. Fee: $30 which possibly can be waived if the student meets eligibility criteria.

LORHN Community Health Advocates Serving Glades Residents


Lake Okeechobee Rural Health Network (LORHN) is proud to be a Florida KidCare Back-to-School partner this year. Community Health Advocates are in Belle Glade, Pahokee, and South Bay every day to answer questions and help navigate the application process. LORHN’s team is also available for presentations/information sessions. Florida KidCare offers free or affordable health and dental insurance coverage for children from birth until the 19th birthday — with no application fee. Competitively priced Florida KidCare plans are available to families who do not qualify for subsidized coverage (that make more than 200% FPL). All four Florida KidCare coverage options include doctor visits, checkups, hospital stays, surgeries, immunizations, prescriptions, emergencies, vision and hearing, mental health services and more.

Call to Artists & Organizations: AIMBY/Family Saturdays


The Cultural Council is seeking cultural organizations and/or teaching artists across all disciplines to deliver the content for the monthly Family Saturdays program. Partners will be paid a $600 stipend (inclusive of supplies). Partners will also have the opportunity to build new audiences and create relationships in those communities. There will be 10 sessions scheduled from October 2024 through July 2025. The deadline to apply is September 2, 2024.

Palm Beach Lifts Blue-Gren Algae Alert for Lake Okeechobee


The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County (DOHPalm Beach) lifted the caution issued on August 21, 2024, for harmful blue-green algae toxins in Lake Okeechobee. Follow-up water samples tested by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) did not detect algae toxins, indicating the public may resume water-related activities.

PACE and My Safe Florida Home Important Program Updates


In 2017, the County's Board of County Commissioners approved PACE financing in PBC. The County's Office of Resilience oversees the PACE program to comply with the PACE Ordinance and ensures that the PACE Districts and Providers follow consumer protection and disclosure provisions. Qualified residential and commercial property owners living within Palm Beach County can finance up to 100% of a qualified project through PACE by adding the project costs and financing costs to their property tax bill.

This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is in English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Farm and Food Worker Relief Program


PBC Community Action in partnership with Coalition of Florida Farmworker Organization, Inc. is assisting in providing this one time $600 payment from the USDA to eligible farmworkers. The relief is intended to defray costs for reasonable and necessary personal, family or living expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These payment will be available to eligible farm and food workers who performed work in farming activities and meatpacking during the period 1/27/2020 – 05/9/2023. Workers will need to provide sufficient proof of employment during the period and also identity when applying.
