Welcome Back!
Dear Educators,

Welcome back! We hope you had a great summer break filled with fun and relaxation, and that you found the opportunity to do the things that make you most happy.

We are excited to kick off the 2021-22 school year -- starting with Teal Day tomorrow! Tomorrow's Teal Day sessions are an excellent opportunity to engage in important, content-specific learning grounded in our district priorities. In addition to singular offerings similar to past Teal Day sessions, you will be able to participate in multi-session Professional Learning Cohorts. These cohorts will provide an opportunity to engage in meaningful learning over time alongside your peers in similar areas of practice. You can find more information about the cohorts in the Cohort Catalogue, including information about required cohorts in some content areas. Please note: For tomorrow's Teal Day and all others this year, centrally-offered professional learning will only be offered during the morning sessions of Teal Days -- the afternoon sessions will be determined by your school.
Please note: As we continue to accelerate learning for our students, the following sessions are required for math and literacy teachers:

  • READ Act Required Reading Training for K-3 Teachers, Interventionists and Coaches (K-3 literacy teachers.)

  • CRE in Literacy Instruction/ Initiating an Assets/Need Assessment for your classes (6-12 literacy teachers.)

  • Planning for Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Education through the Instructional Core (6-12 math teachers.)

Please see the session guide for other required sessions, depending on your role.
If you are registering tomorrow morning (Aug. 17), please reference this document to find meeting links for those Teal Day sessions and the sign-in survey that you need to complete to receive credit.

The majority of sessions will be held virtually, while a handful of sessions will be held in person -- access the Session Guide to identify which sessions are held in person at East High School. Please consult with your principal for additional guidance on which cohorts are required for your role as well as which singular sessions you should attend. If you have further questions, please submit them to the Professional Learning team using this form.

We look forward to working with you in the year ahead. Thank you for being a part of Team DPS and for all that you do for our kids!

Many thanks,
Tamara and Mike
