BAPTIST JOINT COMMITTEE WEBINAR

The Baptist Joint Committee will be hosting a webinar tomorrow evening, Wednesday, July 14, at 7pm. The live conversation is titled “White Christian Nationalism: How Racism Undergirds Christian Nationalism." This is a wonderful chance to hear a conversation between Jemar Tisby, Robert P. Jones and Amanda Tyler, as they discuss the dangers of Christian nationalism and how the ideology often overlaps with and provides cover for white supremacy and racial subjugation. Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee, Amanda Tyler, will be moderating this important conversation between Jones and Tisby. This is a free webinar, and we encourage you to register here!

CLOTHING MINISTRY
WORK DAY

There is much to be done as we get ready for our grand re-opening of the Clothing Ministry on Monday, August 2! Please join us on Saturday, July 24 from 9am-12pm, as we continue to prepare our space for opening our doors to the community. We'll be hanging pre-sorted clothing and doing some general organizing to get our new set up in order. You do not have to be a regular volunteer with the Clothing Ministry to come all are welcome!

As a reminder, we are now accepting gently used clothing donations Monday through Friday, from 8:30am-5pm. Look for the large donation bin located inside the parking lot doors. If possible, we ask that you pre-sort, bag, and label your clothing donations by gender/age – men’s, women’s, children’s. We are unable to clean or repair donated clothing, so please ensure that your clothing donations do not have stains, rips, or broken zippers or missing buttons. Tax receipts are on the wall directly above the donation bin. We do not accept donations of household items other than suitcases, backpacks, and blankets.
HECK-JONES OFFERING

In May we returned to in-person church services and now slowly we are adding Sunday School classes. Our congregation has remained faithful in support of our church and its ministries, both for ourselves and for the community. And now it’s time to bring back the Heck-Jones Offering with an emphasis on Habitat for Humanity and RISE Against Hunger. During COVID-19 shutdowns we realized how important our homes are to us as we “stayed in place” to stay alive and our thoughts turned to efforts to get food when we needed it.
Habitat for Humanity has long been an area of concern and interest for our church. Families build their own homes alongside volunteers, pay an affordable mortgage, and are grateful for our help. We co-built our first house in the 1980s and have continued our involvement with volunteer builders and financial support on many occasions.
Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable. 2.8 million lives were impacted by meals and other aid in 2020 and provided a way for us to do
our part to stop world hunger.

Our goal is $10,000 with the offering to be split as needed. Let’s all join in to feed the hungry of the world and support the common dream of home ownership.

CLOTHING MINISTRY VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION & LUNCH

We are finally ready to welcome volunteers and guests back to the Clothing Ministry after sixteen months of being closed. All of our volunteers are invited to join us on Wednesday, July 28, from 11am-1pm for this orientation and training with a BBQ bag lunch from And Also With 'Cue! We will walk through the new space, go over new polices and procedures, and celebrate the reopening of this beloved ministry together. Please RSVP with this Evite by Monday, July 19!
WEEKDAY PRESCHOOL HIRING

The Weekday Preschool is looking for a loving lead teacher and assistant teacher to join their preschool team! All jobs are 16-20 hours per week, and a degree in early childhood or related field is required for the lead teacher role. Please email Crystal Bacon, Director of the Weekday Preschool, for more information or to apply.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
GREETERS NEEDED

It has been so good to see folks gathering again for in-person Sunday School, although many classes are still choosing to meet virtually, and some will be starting back in the coming weeks. We are in need of one greeter at the back parking lot door from 9:15-10:15am to offer welcome and to remind congregants to sign in and wear their masks in the common areas. Please sign up here. Questions? Email Crystal Bacon.
PEER ADVOCATES FOR HOUSING ALL

In October of 2020, the Housing All Fund began as a collaborative partnership between First Baptist Church and Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh. Both congregations were assisting their neighbors in need with rental and utility assistance, but the sheer volume of people needing help was too much for one church to shoulder independently. We hope that this fund can grow to be a multi-church, inter-faith effort, with congregations partnering together all across Wake County. We believe that we can do more together than we can apart.

To help us meet our goal of keeping families together in their homes, we need volunteers as peer advocate support. Peer advocates are responsible for answering voice mail, assisting with financial request intake, and providing accessible resources to people seeking help. Please note, you only need to attend one of these trainings, as the same information will be shared at each session. There will be a Housing All training in July on Mondays from 1:30-3pm. The remaining dates are as follows:

July 19
July 26

The training will be in the library of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church. Please email Leah to sign-up, or for any further questions.

A WORD OF THANKS

"Thanks for all the prayers, cards, and reaching out to us during the passing of my brother. Even though it is sad to see him go, we call feel the comfort in knowing he is in no more pain. We are blessed to have the chance to see him and other family members and friends once again in HEAVEN. Even though I’m the only one left in my family, I fell blessed to have so many brothers and sisters who reach out to me when I need them. Again thanks my Church and family." - DeLeon & Sandra Turnage
