A note from the Head of School, Ms. Maike

Dear Mission Families,
We want to welcome you again to the 2021-2022 academic year. We hope your children are enjoying their new and updated environments, have acclimated themselves to their new schedules and teachers and are excited about their classes. The staff and administration at Mission are encouraged by the students’ cooperation, enthusiasm, zest for learning and bright smiles.
In our efforts to establish a happy, collaborative and well functioning community, the administration has created a system of values that we feel are fundamental for creating contributing members of our community and the greater global community. We have compiled these values into what we call the Mustang Code. The Mustang Code is a list of 7 characteristics that we wish to instill in each and every student. We also believe that the Code is valuable for the Mission staff and for Mission families. This Code of Conduct, the Mustang Code, will simplify our expectations for every member of our greater Mission Montessori community. The values of the code are: Compassion, Community, Kindness, Respect, Courage, Citizenship, Integrity.
We understand that we are living in very trying times and that many families are working to cope with so many changes, stresses and the unknown. We love to receive your questions and communications but we ask that in doing so, everyone will uphold the values of the Code in regards to compassion, kindness and respect. Everyone at Mission is working tirelessly to provide your children with the best possible educational experience.
As we end our Orientation weeks in school, students will now be engaged with our entire curriculum, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Sciences, Global Studies, Personal World, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Art and Sustainable Systems. Eighth grade students will also be working on a year long course of study known as the Legacy Project. We have just completed our first experiential learning trip with the Middle Years Program traveling last week to Flagstaff and Page Arizona and we are looking forward to Catalina Island Marine Institute, Montessori Model United Nations, the Grand Canyon and Karchner Canyons. We at Mission are constantly looking to enhance your child’s academic experience by combining classroom academics with real world experiences.
I am so proud to work with a wonderful group of professional administrators, teachers and academic support staff. Their dedication, work ethic and commitment inspire me. At Mission, we have a banner that reads, “We lift up ourselves, by lifting up others.” We should all make that a reality every day. Please join me in the celebration of every staff member that works at Mission Montessori. View their beautiful photos below.
“It is in our most trying times that our real character is shaped and revealed.” Helen Keller.

NEW FRIDAY T-SHIRTS ARE READY TO ORDER
|
|
Thank you for making car line a success. Remember to have your placard on the dash. This really helps us assist in directing you where to go.
Do not allow your child to get out of the car without a staff member opening the door. This is a Montessori Practical Life experience that allows a morning greeting with hello and have a great day. It also allows staff members to ensure which students should be on campus or not due to quarantine requirements. You may NOT turn left out of the parking lot during a.m. or p.m. car line.

Middle Years Program Learning Expedition
to Flagstaff and Page, Arizona
|
The 6th, 7th and 8th Graders ventured on their learning expedition to Flagstaff to tackle the ROPES course at Flagstaff Extreme, then learned about the animals that have been rescued over at Bearizona. The students participated in a presentation from Native Americans from the Navajo Nation who shared their traditional Hoop Dance, Grass Dance, Flute playing and Friendship Dance. Then on to Glen Canyon Dam with a boat trip that went around Horseshoe Bend and ended at Lee's Ferry. What an amazing adventure! 36 students, 6 chaperones and 2 trip guides. Next, we are getting ready to attend the Catalina Island Marine Institute Ocean Ecology trip in California in early November.
