Dear Cool Cat Families,
Today was the first time in over 18 months that our student body was reunited together for a Wednesday Wave Outdoor Assembly! Students and Staff exhibited resiliency as we navigated a few audio difficulties and the heat, nevertheless, we were together in one place! Our Cool Cat joined us as selected students gave shoutouts at the microphone. Afterwards, we reviewed our PAWS expectations and how students can earn character cards. Character cards will be collected and placed into a community bucket where three names will be chosen every Friday. These lucky Cool Cats will visit our treasure chest and become a part of the PAWS Club!

Wishing you a PAWSitively awesome week!

Did you know that One Community LG, through the LGEF, funds our elementary counselors Linda Williams and Laura Macfarlane and our K-8 counselor Savannah Henry? Our dedicated counseling staff proactively works with our students to provide the social/emotional support and education our children need to navigate through these challenging times. Students are supported with literature based social/emotional lessons in their classrooms as well as check ins with our counselors. LGEF funded counselors support parents as well through Facilitated Conversations, such as “Confident Parents, Confident Kids,” currently being offered to all families. The Daves Avenue Home & School Club also supports our students through Project Cornerstone and many community building activities such as our Ice Cream Social to start our school year, New Family Welcome, and Kinder and First Grade Playdates. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit onecommunitylg.org.

WINCHESTER BLVD BIKEWAY PROJECT UPDATE
The Winchester Boulevard Class IV Bikeway Project is designed to improve safety for people walking, biking, and driving along the corridor and to transform Winchester Boulevard into a street that provides comfortable bicycle and pedestrian facilities, connecting bicyclists to more destinations and encouraging more bicycling trips!
This project will:
- Protected bike lanes (Class IV) between Blossom Hill Road and Albright Way;
- Remove one of the northbound lanes;
- Construct ADA curb ramps at multiple intersections;
- At the Blossom Hill Road intersection, add a green bike box and two-stage bike left-turn box for cyclists turning left from southbound Santa Cruz to BHR. Remove the westbound free right-turn from BHR to Santa Cruz. Add shark teeth yield markings and new crosswalks;
- At the Daves Avenue intersection, remove the southbound right turn lane to allow the bike lane to continue through the intersection. Add a raised median to lower vehicle speeds for right turns.
- At the Lark Avenue intersection, remove travel lanes, tighten right turn radius, add new crosswalk and pedestrian markings, add buffer bike lanes, and improve signage;
-
Add “Two-Stage Turn box” at Wimbledon Drive
As a part of the Town’s FY 2020/21 Street Repair and Resurfacing Project, the contractor, “Pavement Coatings” completed isolated asphalt repair work on Winchester Boulevard the week of August 16.
They will be performing crack sealing on Friday Sept. 9 and Monday Sept. 13.
They are anticipated to complete resurfacing work by the end of September and begin installation of Class IV bikeways in early October.
All construction activities are expected to complete by the end of October.

Outdoor Learning Spaces - Community Feedback Opportunity
Please join us on Tuesday September 14, 2021 4:00 pm at the Fisher MPR.
|
|
The construction of the N40 development and the associated developer fees has provided LGUSD with a unique opportunity to implement our outdoor improvement plan. Verde Design group will present the schematic designs for these improvements to our elementary school fields, outdoor classroom spaces and safety measures. Verde has developed these plans based on the priorities established by site staff, community members and district administration. The community feedback at this meeting will help inform the board when they finalize the designs within the approved facilities budget at the October 14, board meeting.

Thank you for your support of the universal meal program. This program is provided free of charge to all students through Federal grants and does not require any signup. Since the beginning of the school year we have begun serving over 1800 meals per day. This is a new program for our staff and we have had some challenges securing supplies and meeting the published menus. We have been improving each week and expect, with your patience and participation, to move toward more scratch cooked meals with fresh ingredients.
The menu is updated each week and the link is Menu Link.
