Flip-Your-Strip Water Conservation
The Flip-Your-Strip program was established to encourage the reduction of water use for landscaping. Eligible property owners may be qualified to receive $1.50 per square foot for new, water-wise landscaping in their park strip.

It's Almost Time!
Municipal Primary Elections
A primary election is held when there are more than two candidates running for a particular office. The top two candidates from the primary election will then be on the ballot for the general election, which will be held on November 2.
Murray City will have a primary election for the Mayor's seat and for Council District 4.

Registered voters will receive a ballot by mail. For those that prefer to vote in person, early voting will take place August 3-6 at Murray City Hall. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 10.

There will not be a primary election for Council District 2 as there are only two candidates.
Recycle Right
Did you know that water is the lead cause of contamination in recycling bins? If paper or cardboard is wet, it is not recyclable and the load will end up at the landfill.

Make sure all materials are dry when you place them in your recycling can. This ensures that cross-contamination won't occur, and there's a much better chance that your materials will be recycled as intended.
Keep Your Dog Cool
Your dog is too cool for hot cars! The record-setting temperatures we are experiencing make your car, yard, or even patio a dangerous place for your pet.

Hot Cars: Once outside temperatures reach 70-degrees, temperatures in a car can exceed 116-degrees within 10 minutes. Temperatures inside the vehicle are deadly. Dogs can suffer from heatstroke, irreparable brain damage, or even death. If you see a pet inside a vehicle, excessively panting, non-responsive, drooling, or listless, call Salt Lake County Animal Service’s Dispatch number immediately: 801-840-4000.

Hot Pavement: Dogs can burn their paws on the sidewalk in the summer. When in doubt test the surface yourself: place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you CAN’T stand the heat for FIVE seconds, it’s too hot for you to walk your dog. Walk your dog early in the morning, later in the evening, and leave them at home when heading to festivals or farmer’s markets.

Hot Balconies: Despite being covered, a balcony can get very hot, VERY fast. A dog left on a balcony may try to escape and injure themselves when they’re left alone and hot. A bowl of water is easily overturned, and the pet is left anxious and dehydrated. If you see or hear a pet on a balcony that’s in distress call Animal Control immediately: 801-840-4000.
Fireworks Safety Reminder
The city is very pleased to report that there were no fires within city limits sparked by fireworks over the July 4 holiday.

Due to extreme drought conditions, residents and visitors are again strongly encouraged to refrain from lighting personal fireworks for the July 24 Pioneer Day holiday. Remember, Murray City has specified the areas where fireworks are not allowed, such as around Murray Park, the Jordan River Parkway, and Wheeler Farm. Per state law, cities only have the authority to ban fireworks in areas that border natural open space, which Murray City has done.

The state fire marshall allows the discharge of Class C fireworks on the dates listed below between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., except as noted.

July 22-25
(July 24 hours extended to midnight)

Please visit the Murray City Fire Department Facebook page for tips on fireworks safety if you plan to discharge fireworks in permitted areas.
