The Annual Heroes of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton Dinner will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Arrowood Golf Course. The event will recognize representatives from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside Police Department, Oceanside Fire Department, Oceanside Lifeguards, Healthcare Workers and Teachers from the local school district(s) for their outstanding contributions to the well-being and advancement of our City.​ The event is open to everyone. Tickets cost $65 for Oceanside Chamber members, and $95 for non-members. You must register prior to the event. No walk-ins allowed.

This is a great opportunity for new members to meet other members while receiving information on the Oceanside Chamber's work and offerings. Our Oceanside Chamber team will provide an overview of the Chamber's priorities and programs you can utilize to help your business grow this year. We encourage new members looking to get the most out of their Chamber members and old members looking for a refresh on chamber offerings to join us and enjoy a casual meet and greet with our Chamber staff. A continental breakfast and coffee will be provided.

SOCAL Receives Proclamation for Excellence in Economic Development


(Source: SDNEDC) - Student Opportunities for Career Awareness and Learning Program (SOCAL) received a proclamation for its outstanding commitment to the economic development of San Diego County communities from Chair Nathan Fletcher and all the members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 14.  


“The SOCAL program provides insight into a variety of good-paying careers with a broad range of educational requirements ranging from high school and certificate-level training, to associates, bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. I’m proud to support this program and want to thank all who are involved with it!” said Supervisor Jim Desmond, who presented the proclamation. 


SOCALworkforce.org includes 40 videos from businesses, 21 videos created by Tri-City Medical Center, and 60 videos from San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) highlighting careers in manufacturing, biotechnology, communications technology, construction, electrical, energy, environmental & utilities, food processing, healthcare (clinical & non-clinical), media/film/events, public safety, and software. It is set up as a one-stop resource for career-seekers to explore industries, companies, and careers, with the goal of inspiring the future workforce with new career pathways. 


The SOCAL website has been visited by over 2000 students; SOCAL partners have briefed 16 different school districts that currently educate more than 130,000 students; and SOCAL has been featured at Super Stem Saturday, Carlsbad Unified School District parent outreach events, and Vista Unified School District’s Career Awareness event.  


The collaborative aims to have 100 career profiles and videos by the end of 2022 and will be offering career-day interactive and virtual presentations by community residents, providing insight into their careers, and will be offering experience-ship and internship opportunities in 2023.

Update on Homeless Efforts


(Source: City of Oceanside) - It is the City's goal to assist homeless residents, while also mitigating community impacts caused by encampments. Staff across nearly every City department are working on multi-pronged efforts to find long-term solutions. Several significant coming projects will soon be making a bigger impact on moving people off of the streets.

Innovate78 // SPOT Startup Series // Recruitment + Retention


On July 14th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Innovate78 Collaborative, the joint economic development partnership among the 5 North County cities along the SR78 corridor, will be holding a networking and educational event at the Wagner Aquatic and Events Center (3303 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside, CA) focused on talent recruitment and retention.  With 5 great speakers that are in the talent acquisition space, it promises to be a great evening to find out about how north county companies are scaling up during this period of near full employment and ultra-competitive hiring.

San Diego County Microbusiness COVID-19 Grant Relief


The California Office of the Small Business Advocate has awarded $4,175,000 in funding to the County of San Diego for the Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant Program.


This program will provide grants of $2,500 to County of San Diego microbusiness owners (see below for definition) who were in operation in 2019, still in operation, and were impacted by the Covid-19 public health restrictions.

Mileage Reimbursement Rate Increases on July 1


(Source: CalChamber) - On June 9, 2022, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced an increase in the standard mileage rate for the second half of 2022. Although this rate usually changes annually in January, this year’s sharp increase in gas prices prompted the mid-year change.


“The IRS is adjusting the standard mileage rates to better reflect the recent increase in fuel prices,” explained IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig in the press release. “We are aware a number of unusual factors have come into play involving fuel costs, and we are taking this special step to help taxpayers, businesses and others who use this rate.”

SCORE Offers Small Business Training Workshops


SCORE San Diego volunteers are experienced entrepreneurs, corporate managers, and executives with a diverse set of industries and specialties, offered in small-business training workshops. For $25, clients receive a two- to three-hour workshop, in person at SCORE San Diego, 8825 Aero Drive, Suite 102, San Diego, or on Zoom; a PDF of the presentation; and a link to the final workshop video. SCORE also can provide workshops in full or short form privately for your organization by request. Visit SCORE San Diego's website below, and click on “Take a Workshop.” Registration deadline is midnight the day before all events.

CalSavers Deadline This Month


Eligible employers with more than 5 employees must register by June 30, 2022


State law now requires all businesses with five or more employees to participate in CalSavers if they do not offer a retirement savings plan from the private market. Eligible employers must register for CalSavers by their state required deadline, which vary by employer size. The deadline for employers with more than 5 employees June 30, 2022.

“Challenging the Idea of Public Safety” a Free Mental Health Event Hosted by Lived Experiences


On August 10th from 10 AM - 5 PM at the Star Theatre in Oceanside (402 N Coast Hwy. Oceanside, CA 92054), ten influential leaders will share the importance of trauma, language and solution based data that leads to improve healthier communities, reimagining policing, and innovative social work practices. The goal of the event is to have a different kind of gathering, looking at community health from different perspectives in the hope of finding pathways forward to improve the lives of the most marginalized in our communities.

Tri-City Medical Center Wins 23 Health Care Communicators Awards


(Source: San Diego County Small Business Journal) - Oceanside-based Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC) took home 23 trophies, including the prestigious Best in Show award, at the Health Care Communicators of Southern California’s Finest Awards late last week.

 

It was the second year in a row TCMC won Best in Show.

 

In all, Tri-City received eight gold, nine silver and five bronze awards, which centered around brand campaigns and communication and design projects that elevated the hospital and its staff in 2021.
