Symphony Visit

3rd-5th Grade visited the CO Symphony this week for a special performance! It was a wonderful experience and students had a great time enjoying such beautiful art. Some photos taken by chaperones are in this album. If you have any to add, please do!

About the concert:

This year’s theme for youth concerts is “Lift Every Voice,” which delivers a message of unity, social justice, and creative self-expression. Join the Colorado Symphony in a concert experience that has repertoire representing a wide array of soundscapes and culture that are sure to engage students at any age. We’re proud to have a multitude of artistic collaborators including Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Fiesta Colorado Dance, visual artist Javier Flores, spoken word poet Frankie Le’Troy, and composer Omar Thomas.

From Mr. Moore:

I would like to add my two cents and say that, "Every voice, means YOUR VOICE." You are important! You are worthy! You are important! One day, we will "lift every voice" and our differences will be celebrated and our similarities transcend the walls of oppression and we will become a single humanity. Without YOU we have no US! Keep believing,, striving, and understanding! WE ARE STEDMAN!

¡SOMOS STEDMAN!

DESTINATION IMAGINATION

Destination Imagination 5280 held its tournament at Hinkley High School on March10. Our 2nd graders represented Stedman in a STEAM challenge. They were asked to create a play or musical with a story involving friends on a journey who encounter an obstacle. They need to overcome the obstacle using musical instruments and a song. All elements of the play including the script, the song, the instruments, costumes, and scenery were all created by our team. Our story was about a group of fruit who encounter a fruit wizard, an evil candy wizard, and a rotting banana.

Congratulations to Coulter, Enzo, Lizzy, Lola, Joy, Lucy, and Francisco!

¡Felicitaciones a Coulter, Enzo, Lizzy, Lola, Joy, Lucy y Francisco!

Lexia - Supporting Literacy

Families - we are excited to announce that we have been able to open Lexia accounts once again for all of our K-5 students through the end of this school year. Lexia is a powerful online tool that supports students in their English language literacy growth. We encourage all students to regularly spend time in the program (students who have used it before will pick up where they left off), particularly if they are looking to improve their English phonics development.

Students can access Lexia through the Clever portal on their Chromebooks (https://clever.com/in/dpsk12). {As a reminder, a student's username is their DPS ID number, and their password is their 8 digit birthdate (mmddyyyy)}. Please let us know if you have any questions!

More about Lexia:

  • What: Lexia is one of the most rigorously researched, independently evaluated, and respected reading programs in the world. It is approved by CDE as a READ Act intervention.
  • Why: We are using Lexia to support students specifically in their English phonics development. The sequence of lessons are aligned directly to Orton Gillingham (the in person English phonics curriculum we use).
  • How: The program guides students through a game like structure. If the student does not know a skill it will teach it to them. If the student still does not succeed an alert is sent to the teacher with a lesson to address the misconception.

Access Lexia through Clever: https://clever.com/in/dpsk12

  • Username = Student’s DPS ID Number
  • Password = 8 digit birthdate (mmddyyyy)

***

CMAS Information for 3rd-5th Grade

Our Stedman 3rd-5th grade students will be taking the annual state assessment, CMAS, beginning on April 10th. Our students have shown strong academic growth this year despite the uncertainty of the last three academic years, and we are confident that they will perform well.

These assessments focus on providing our school information on how well our students are doing on grade-level standards. Teachers will use this information to determine how we can better meet the needs of our students. Our 3rd-5th grade students will take the English Language Arts and Math assessments. Fifth graders will also take the CMAS Science assessment.

During the past three years, we have had many different distractions. As a result, our children's school experiences have been vastly different from our own, as they have navigated many different scenarios beyond our greatest imaginations. With that said, Stedman has remained hyper-focused on our supports and resources to quickly adapt and meet students' academic needs. We are proud of the work we have done in collaboration with our parent community. We know our students are prepared, and we look forward to watching them CRUSH the Colorado Measure of Academic Success (CMAS) exam.

Families - please mark your calendar for this year's CMAS dates. We hope that families can plan around these dates and avoid scheduled absences or appointments if possible. Please read more about CMAS testing here. We've modified the schedule slightly:
