Ohio Congressman Balderson leads effort to stop Biden's plan to shut down power plants

Ohio Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) launched the bipartisan push for the Congressional Review Act, and 138 House colleagues joined him in the challenge to the Biden Administration’s plan to shut down coal power plants across the country, including in Ohio.

Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), simultaneously led 43 of her colleagues in introducing an identical resolution in the United States Senate.

The new EPA rules targeting both coal and natural gas power plants were released last month and pose a great threat to the reliability and affordability of electricity for cooperative members, and all users of electricity.

The rules are part of the administration’s Clean Air Act, now dubbed Clean Power Plan 2.0.

April outage report

LMRE experienced 22 outages in April, the majority of which were caused by damaged equipment or vehicle accidents requiring repairs.

A number of factors can affect how long your power is out during an outage, including extent of the damage, number of people out, and the spread of outages across our system. That's why there's a set process for restoring power followed by our line crews to get the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Reminder - outages can be reported 24/7 to the cooperative by calling

800-222-5673.

LMRE bringing live line safety into the community

Safety and Compliance Coordinator Mike Stahl, with the assistance of LMRE Apprentice Linemen Nick Keys and Owen Carey, conducted two live line safety demonstrations in May.

LMRE presented the live line demonstration for Keystone High School students, members of Spencer Community Fire District, and Chatham Township Fire Department. The demonstration introduces viewers to the hazards of downed lines and stresses the importance of staying away from fallen power lines.

The students and community members saw what could happen when a person comes into contact with downed lines due to storm damage, accidents, fire on electric poles, and much more.

Our live line demonstrations are part of an increased effort to spread the message about electrical safety to students, members of the cooperative, and first responders. If you know a group who may be interested in having a live line demonstration, reach out to the co-op at 440-647-2133.
