The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced that two Delaware organizations including the Delaware Division of the Arts, will receive $850,500 in federal grants. | |
The Delaware Division of the Arts will receive a partnership (State & Regional) grant in the amount of $825,500 to support activities associated with carrying out its NEA-approved State strategic plan.

The Delaware Symphony will receive a Grants for Arts Projects award in the amount of $25,000 to support the commissioning and world premiere of Jennifer Higdon's new work for orchestra, Cold Mountain Suite, based on her critically acclaimed Grammy®-nominated opera. | |
The Delaware Division of the Arts welcomed Andy Truscott to our staff at the end of June as the new Program Officer, Marketing and Communications. Serving as the agency's public information officer and marketing director, Andy is responsible for coordinating all agency communications through social media, news releases, and publications; along with management of the state arts calendar and communications with grantees and constituents about Division programs and events.
Andy has spent the last ten years working intimately in the arts in Delaware: five years with the Delaware Theatre Company as their Director of Marketing and Development, and five years with The Grand Opera House as their Associate Director of Marketing. He was also a founding board member of the inWilmington Marketing Campaign and has been named one of Delaware's 40 Under 40 by Delaware Business Times.
Recently, Andy and his wife Brittany welcomed their first child, Mia, into the world.

Delaware Arts Alliance Names
New Executive Director

The Delaware Arts Alliance (DAA) Executive Committee has selected Neil Kirschling as the new executive director, effective June 27. Neil succeeds Jessica Ball, who in November 2021 was appointed director of the Delaware Division of the Arts (DDOA).
Neil joins DAA at a crucial time, as they continue their work with the DDOA and the General Assembly’s Arts and Culture Caucus to promote equitable access to the arts in Delaware, particularly in K-12 classrooms. He will also guide the statewide cultural recovery and economic growth plan. This plan is funded by a $1 million grant through Governor Carney’s American Rescue Plan Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation program, secured by Jessica Ball during her tenure.

Jeff Knoettner
Established, Jazz: Performance

A graduate of Boston’s esteemed Berklee School of Music with a degree in piano performance, Knoettner has performed widely, including with his own group (jeffjazz trio). He’s played at festivals nationwide, including at Delaware’s own renowned Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, where he’s played with bands that opened for performers like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, BWB, and Grammy- and Emmy- winner Arturo Sandoval.

Roger Matsumoto
Established, Visual Arts: Photography

Roger Matsumoto has been involved with photography since he learned the basics during his junior high school days. The photographer for his school newspaper, Matsumoto also did astrophotography using an 8-inch telescope that he made. Though Ansel Adams’ photographs were the pivotal inspiration for his work and his artistic practice, Matsumoto was also influenced by the work of Karl Blossfeldt and Brett Weston.

2022 Writers’ Retreat Application
The Delaware Division of the Arts is planning to host the 2022 Writers' Retreat in person from November 3-6, 2022 at the University of Delaware’s Virden Center in Lewes. Tara Campbell and Chet’la Sebree will be leading the workshops.
The application process is competitive, and participants will be chosen based on the merit of their writing submissions. Work samples will be juried in an anonymous review process to select up to 20 attendees from the applicant pool, split between poetry and prose.
If selected, participants must remit a fee for the retreat ($325), which includes a private room and most meals.
