“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
- Exodus 14:14-
In 2017, it was ranked America’s Best Restroom by Cintas Corporation. Toilets throughout the land envy the view of the OdySea Aquarium located near Scottsdale Arizona. It is rated the #1 for good reason. One step into the commode coveting room and you feel like you are using the can at the bottom of the ocean! Seven foot Sharks glide through saltwater as you wash your hands. My daughter utilized the facilities last week and told me it was the most amazing bathroom she has ever seen.
Chapter 4 of The Story rapidly moves us through the incredible journey God takes Moses and God’s people on. Moses starts off in an infant raft ride into the palace, and through twists and turns, God uses Moses to lead his people out of Egypt. In chapter 14 of Exodus, we see a remarkable scene. God’s people are trapped, and God led them there through Moses. The Israelites are terrified as they are surrounded by Pharoah and his bloodthirsty men. They cry out to God,
“What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” Didn’t we say to you in Egypt ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians?’ It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
But Moses answered, “Do not be afraid …. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Staying still is hard isn’t it? (Especially when we are terrified). We love to check the latest news, check our phones for updates, ask others what they think hoping to quickly garner support for our anger, our rage, our frustrations, and especially our fears. Deliverance from our fears seems impossible, we think we can swim fast enough to escape the waves of doubt we hold in our hearts. Stroke after stroke we soon realize we haven’t moved at all and we are terrified. We don’t like to be still.
The Lord will fight for you, and he will fight for me. He proved it over and over again already in God’s Story and he will continue to do so. Pharaoh's awesome army has nothing on our incredible God. Satan’s shots are spitballs against the armor of our Lord. Our Lord parted the sea for the Israelites outside of Egypt, and on a Friday afternoon on a cross outside of Jerusalem, He split the veil taking all our sin upon himself so that we might be delivered from death and condemnation forever!
If you feel like you are underwater, you might be in a bathroom in Arizona. If not, maybe it’s more serious. You feel like you are drowning in fear and doubt. Our Lord knows exactly what is going on in your life and he will get you to the other side.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
See you Sunday, as we see the drama continue to unfold when God splits the sea and delivers his people from death.
I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
