What’s Happening in March 2022

We expect gusty March Winds to herald Spring in California and this month. We've had some ferocious storms and gales and now we’re feeling the winds of change blowing in from the war in Europe. March is also the month we celebrate International Women's Day and St Patrick’s Day. Daylight Savings gives us back our light-filled evenings. Synergy’s mantra for March is to stay healthy and take heart. We only have energy to help others when we are taking best care of ourselves.
Cannabis in the 21st Century

Antiquity shows us the history of how long humans have utilized cannabis for medicine; ancient texts from China, India, Egypt, the Middle East and across the Roman Empire all cite cannabis for treating a wide range of conditions. In Europe, Materia Medica from the Middle Ages onwards acknowledged the healing power of cannabis for conditions ranging from headaches to rheumatism, gout, depression and womens’ reproductive health.

In 1850 the United States Pharmacopeia listed cannabis as treatment for over thirty ailments, including opiate addiction, alcoholism and convulsive disorders.

Despite the thousands of years of cannabis’ medical credibility it all ended with the criminalization of cannabis in the twentieth century.
Women and Cannabis

In March we celebrate International Women's Day drawing attention to women's achievements in society and the struggle for equality. In the world of cannabis women play substantial roles, from breakthrough medical researchers to cultivators and activists. Here are just a few of the many incredible women who have contributed to the advance of medical cannabis.
An Introduction to Qi Gong
A 4,000 year old practice that can help you live better in 2020.
Qi Gong is a rich, multifaceted practice that has been a cornerstone of Chinese medicine for at least 4,000 years. The words Qi Gong loosely translate as energy work, and at its most basic, involves the cultivation of energy flow throughout the body. The Qi (pronounced “chi”) is often described as a life force that flows through the body’s twelve meridians, and in keeping with ancient Chinese beliefs about the creation of the universe, this Qi is comprised of both yin and yang elements. Perhaps the most basic objective of Qi Gong is to balance the yin and yang aspects of Qi.

Never regret a day in your life.
Good days give you happiness.
Bad days give you experience.
Rainbows always come with rain.
Most importantly: You get to decide every moment, what to focus on.
CBD Citrus Bitters Recipe
By Billee Sharp

Bitters are usually associated with alcoholic cocktails but they also make a delicious non-alcoholic tipple, with many health benefits. Composed of peels, roots, aromatic spice, herbs and flowers, bitters stimulate our digestion and ease gas, bloating and indigestion. The bitter component needed for a healthy constitution is sadly lacking in our modern diet, so here is our easy bitters recipe, enhanced with CBD tincture for extra benefits.

This is a simple bitters recipe for novices, the basic instructions can be altered to accommodate any combination of ingredients that you fancy!

I’ve chosen to use apple cider vinegar instead of high percent alcohol here but you can use alcohol if you prefer.

You’ll need minimal equipment for this recipe: a large glass jar with lid, sterilized bottles for storage, muslin or cheesecloth for straining.

Ingredients

14 grams / ½ oz  orange/lemon/lime/grapefruit peel- (choose one or use a mix of two or more)
Prepare the peel by drying the zested strips in an oven on the lowest heat setting or alternatively just add to the mixture raw, it’s a matter of personal choice.

14 grams / ½ oz ginger root, turmeric root, liquorice root, dandelion root - use one or more, roughly chop the root.

1 teaspoon of aromatics: choose from cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, cloves, coriander seeds, peppercorns, coffee beans or a mixture.

2 tablespoons dried herbs: choose from lavender, chamomile, sage, mint, rose, thyme , add one or more

15 ml alcohol-based CBD tincture

6-8 fl oz Apple cider vinegar

Combine all the ingredients in the large glass jar, then pour over the apple cider vinegar and the CBD tincture, screw the lid on tightly, give the jar a good shake every day and store in a cool, shady spot. Remember to label your jar with ingredients and the date you made it.

After 21 days, strain the liquid through muslin or cheesecloth into sterilized bottles, use a pipette to add bitters to the beverage of your choice.
