Dear Borel Families,
We are so enjoying watching our students learn and grow in our classrooms. They are learning, connecting with old friends and making new ones each day. One way to connect is to join a club. Check out our current club list. Each week Ms. Brilhart and myself go into classrooms and notice so much community building, curriculum implementation, and strategies to engage all learners. It is always a rose (see below) to watch learning at Borel in action!
Health & Safety, Covid Pool Testing: Be on the lookout for district communication about Covid pool testing. This is an important measure to stop the spread and continue activities that we love. Thank you for your continued support to ensure students come to school healthy, with their masks and practice hand washing frequently. Thank you for communicating with us if there’s a positive case in your home. These measures at school and at home are essential and we appreciate your partnership. Please make sure you frequently read your texts, calls and emails fully from the school. Finally, please note these resources on our Health and Safety page of our website:
Labor Day Travel Plans? Know Before you Go: Travel Guidance An additional measure to stop the spread is to refer to the attached CDPH Travel Guidance Document in English and Spanish shared in Superintendent Ochoa’s “Safe Return to School” document. When in doubt, please contact us and we can review plans together.
Chromebook Update: We anticipate chromebooks arriving this week and will begin the distribution process to students who do not have a chromebook checked out already. We will be reviewing Chromebook Respectful, Responsible and Safe Expectations with students in homeroom lessons. You can help by reminding your student to charge their chromebook, make sure their name sticker is still on their chromebook, and ensure they bring it daily.
Sports Update: We are hoping you all received the text and email update about sports. Thursday, September 9th at 6PM will be our Virtual Sports Night. More information to come from Athletic Director Joel Schmitt. It is also located here and excerpted here:
At this time, cross country can resume as there are no tryouts and students can join at any time. Flag football tryouts which is held outdoors may resume on September 13 and volleyball tryouts which are held indoors may resume on September 20. Tryouts for football and volleyball are being held after the Labor Day Weekend as there may be a rise in positive cases and pool testing will be in place.
Rose, Thorn and Bud We know that the back to school season can be stressful for some students. The folks at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing recommend to “check in with our children often and address any concerns they have.” One way we do this at my home recently is sharing out a “rose, thorn and bud” each night at dinner. I learn what my children liked (the rose), what was frustrating (a thorn) and what they are looking forward to (a bud).
I continue to look forward to coming here each day and supporting students, staff and families. Please reach out if you have any questions and have a safe Labor Day weekend!
Sincerely,
Jessica Notte
