Dear Normandale Families,

As the weather gets warmer my summer “to do” list is getting longer! Some of the things I will be doing this summer include:

  • Hiring staff: All teaching positions have been filled for the next school year. I will be hiring para-professionals for kindergarten, first and second grade over the summer.
  • Learning: I’ll be attending an Immersion conference on oral language proficiency through the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition
  • Monitoring construction projects: Normandale's sidewalk and wooden fence along the frontage road will be replaced this summer. Most single pane windows in classrooms are also slated to be upgraded in July. Finally, an electronic marquee and new flag pole will be installed near the pick-up and drop-off circle.
  • Hosting a graduation party: My youngest daughter graduates from high school in a week and I have a list of projects that need attention prior to her party.
  • Moving: I have three young adults attending the University of Minnesota next fall. Each one of them needs muscle and money as they move into new digs. I will provide both!
  • Having fun: Fishing, biking and camping trips are on my schedule. Hopefully I will catch fish and avoid crashing my bike!

I hope your summer to do list includes some fun as well as projects. I hope you have a safe and relaxing break and I look forward to working with Normandale’s students and families again next fall!

FIELD DAY!

Field day for grades K-4 is TOMORROW (June 2) from 11:45 to 3:00. It is a fun-filled event on the last day of school for student and parents, held rain or shine! We STILL NEED a few more volunteers to make the afternoon run. Please sign up for a volunteer slot!

FIELD DAY VOLUNTEERS
  • Home lunch students should have a DISPOSABLE bag lunch
  • Everyone needs a water bottle
  • Wear athletic shoes
  • Apply sunscreen before school
  • Wear your grade level color t-shirt
  • Kindergarten: Blue
  • 1st grade: White or Black
  • 2nd grade: Red
  • 3rd grade: Yellow
  • 4th grade: Green

YEARBOOK UPDATE

Like so many items, our yearbooks are experiencing production delays and will not arrive by the last day of school. All students will receive souvenir autograph pages that they can have their friends sign and then insert in their yearbooks once they arrive. Please watch for an email from the PTO in late June regarding distribution. Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND

Believe it or not, the Normandale Lost and Found is full again! Please stop by the lost and found to claim your items. Items will be laid out through Thursday 6/2.  Stop by to claim between 7am and 6pm.  Anything not picked up by the end of the last day of school (June 2) will be donated.

Need labels for your summer clothes and camp items? Purchase labels using this link from namebubbles.com and Normandale PTO will receive a portion of your purchase amount!

FROM THE PTO PRESIDENT

I have to begin by saying it has been my privilege to serve as chair of the Normandale PTO for this last year and look forward to making next year even better as we plan for a full slate of school programs and activities! I can’t stress enough how much being a part of this “frenchie family" means to me. I have repeatedly witnessed what a devoted community can do…hundreds of volunteers have put in many hours to make our PTO events, school programs and activities a huge success this year!

On behalf of the PTO Executive Board, I want to thank our entire school community for their support to the students and staff at Normandale. From simply paying your PTO fees to leading an event or hosting a community connection, from volunteering for lunch to simply attending La Kermesse, your contributions of time, effort, and/or money validates and broadens your child’s educational experience through our intern program!

The PTO wishes everyone a safe and happy summer. A special bon voyage to our 5th graders who are headed off to middle school… best wishes to you in your future endeavors!

2022-23 NORMANDALE SCHOOL SUPPLIES

At Normandale, we buy school supplies in bulk for all students. This saves time and money for families, reduces waste, and promotes sharing as part of our school culture. Supplies are purchased over the summer and ready for students in the classroom before the first day of school. We will be collecting field trip fees, classroom party fees, and PTO fees at the same time as school supplies.

Please order as soon as possible so that the PTO has the necessary funds to purchase your supplies!

Ordering Your Supplies

The school supplies order form is available within the Membership Toolkit platform.

In order to access the school supplies form, you must be logged in to Normandale's Membership Toolkit portal. If you have not confirmed your family's data this year, you will need to do that before the system will allow you to access the school supplies form. Once you are logged in, you can find Forms under the My Account menu. The school supplies order form is also available through the Membership Toolkit mobile app. You can find it in the top left menu under My Account > Forms.

Normandale families already have an entry in the directory even if you have never logged in. If you are unsure what email address is associated with your Normandale Membership Toolkit account, or if you have any questions about the school supplies form, please email Sheri Rosen.

Additional Details

School Supplies

This cost varies by grade. Teachers work with the school supply team to ensure they have all the supplies needed for their classrooms.

French Intern Donation

The largest and most important line item in the PTO fee payment. We ask that you contribute $100 PER STUDENT you have at Normandale to help pay for all the things needed to bring the best interns into our classrooms. The fundraising we do throughout the year covers a large portion of the expenses; PTO family donations make up the rest.

PTO Family Contribution

Each FAMILY is asked to contribute a flat fee of $30 per year. These membership fees are allocated for various school-wide programs, grants, and financial aid.

Scholarships are Available - Please contact Principal Holden.

SAVE THE DATE - NORMANDALE BACK TO SCHOOL

On August 29th and 30th Normandale Elementary will be hosting Connect and Assess Days with all Normandale students and families. Please mark your calendars to be in town on these important days. Students will be invited by their teacher to participate in the planed assessments of learning and important connection and relationship building activities. More information to come. Thank you!
