Dear Friends
This Sunday, the appointed Psalm is Psalm 23. Probably the most well known and beloved of all the Psalms, its pastoral language has offered comfort and hope for generations.
Psalm 23 (King James Version)
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’ sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
In a book of poems published posthumously, John Updike invokes Psalm 23 in a beautiful work called ‘Fine Point’. They were, perhaps, some of his final creative words. In that poem, he wonders why he went to Sunday school when he didn’t believe any of what he was taught. But in the poem’s final stanza, he settles on a word in the Psalm that should not escape notice. “Surely”.
We mocked but took. The timbrel creed of praise
gives spirit to the daily; blood tinges lips.
The tongue reposes in papyrus pleas,
saying, Surely — magnificent that ‘surely’ —
goodness and mercy shall follow me all
the days of my life, my life, forever.
See you Sunday-
George

Social Justice "13th" Documentary Film Viewing
As we continue the Christian work of anti-racism, join us in watching 13th, a documentary by Ava DuVernay.
In order to accommodate everyone's schedules, please select an evening that would work best for us to gather together! We will be meeting sometime in March at 7:00 PM. Click HERE for link to Google Form.
Ava DuVernay's 2016 documentary 13th, titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, explores the "intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States". DuVernay explores how slavery has been perpetuated since the adoption of the Thirteenth Amendment through convict leasing; suppression of African Americans by disenfranchisement, lynchings, and Jim Crow; politicians declaring a war on drugs that weighs more heavily on minority communities and, by the late 20th century, mass incarceration affecting communities of color, especially American descendants of slavery, in the United States.
13th was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards, and won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Afghan Ministry Update
St. Peter's Parish Hall was abuzz this Sunday as about 115 parishoners, community members and Afghan evacuees from Manchester joined together in fellowship for lunch. About 50 Afghan men, women and children visited us and brought a delicious feast to share, in thanks for St. Peter's support for the community. It was a joyful afternoon of getting to know each other and eating nuts and dried fruit, five varieties of rice, pakora, sambosa, soup, chicken, kebabs, curry, goat, okra and spinach, served with Afghan bread and Afghan green tea with cardamom. The women who cooked (Saweta, Zahra, Rabia, Beduna, Shugofa, Shabina, Zarafshan, Mujahida, Zarghona H., Zarghona N., Suraya, Najila and Sarah) were so gratified that everyone was able to experience Afghan hospitality and enjoyed the food so much that they went back for seconds and thirds until it was all gone! The dessert table was loaded with sweets, including a birthday cake for a boy celebrating his 9th birthday. We exchanged greetings of hello and salaam, passed babies around, watched the kids play together and have a snowball fight outside, sang happy birthday and generally had a great time. Thank you to Lynn, Anne, Camille, Ann, Judy, Rosie, Mike, Cathy, our volunteer drivers from Grace Church Manchester, George and everyone who contributed to make the event a success and an example of St. Peter's outreach in the community. We know that some of you wanted to come but were unable to. We welcome you to join us in Manchester to meet the women, families and/or men from Afghanistan. Women's events are on Tuesdays, men's social events are on Sunday afternoons, visiting families and children can be arranged any day or evening of the week.
Thank you, tashakor (thank you in Dari) and manana (thank you in Pashto) from Karen and Hansi.

Home Communion and Prayer | |
Though many of St. Peter's parishioners have returned to worshiping and receiving Holy Communion in person inside our church building, we know it is not yet safe for all of us to do so. We will continue to live-stream our services so that we may include as many as possible in our offerings of praise and thanksgiving to God.
If it is not yet safe for you to worship with us in person, and you would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a share a time of prayer at your home, please contact the Parish Office.
If you would like to schedule a time during the week for private prayer in the church, please contact the church office.
St. Peter's is committed to continuing to make our worship space safe and welcoming to all. We hope to have you back with us in person as soon as doing so is the right choice for you.
