July 12: PPOA representatives took part in their weekly teleconference to continue assessing the impact of COVID-19 on our membership. Meeting participants included President Rhodes, Executive Director Quint, Labor Representative O'Neil, Intake Representative Kevin Thompson and PPOA legal counsel.

Sustained increases in cases and hospitalizations fueled by the BA.5 subvariant pushed LA County into the "high" virus activity level this week. If the County remains at that level for two weeks, a new masking order could be issued by July 29th.

Team Meeting re: Schedule Changes
July 14: PPOA representatives held a teleconference to discuss the projected schedule changes at Community Colleges Bureau and review related documents provided by LASD management last week. The recent contract renewal between the Sheriff's Department and the LA Community Colleges District represents a long-term commitment of providing security to the nine college campuses within the District and ensures funding for over 100 Security Officer positions. The new contract will create a consistent staffing model between the college campuses, add Security Officer positions, and enhance dispatch capabilities.

Meeting participants from PPOA included Board Member Garcia, Executive Director Quint and Labor Representative O'Neil.

Members Hit the High Seas for 22nd Annual PPOA Fishing Trip
July 15: Early yesterday morning, a crew of seaworthy (give or take a few) PPOA members and their guests set off for a day of fishing along the Southern California coast. Chartering that boat is a tradition PPOA has maintained for 22 consecutive years and judging by the saltiness of the anglers yesterday, we expect a steep decline in the Pacific fish population this weekend.
