April 2023 Newsletter

A Message From Carmen Skurdal

Our President

Dear Members,

As March turns to April I am looking forward to the promise of warmer weather and the start of golf season. I have been in Norway these past few weeks and experienced below zero weather, winter storms and unbelievable winds during our cruise but we saw the Northern lights and some of the most beautiful places there. It was worth braving the weather but I am happy to be home.

The Executive and General Board have been busy finalizing the Board positions for 2023-2024. If you have interest in serving on the Board or committee positions we would love to hear from you. YOU can make a difference by becoming active in WWC. We would love to hear from you.

I will miss seeing you at our April luncheon as family obligations will take precedent. But please know I am only a text or email away. I look forward to seeing you in May at our yearly major event- the Fashion Show. Take care!

“ There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others “.

  - Mandy Hale

March 8th

Luncheon Invitation

from Gabriella Pietrafitta, 1st VP

Hoping everyone is having a fabulous spring. That means summer is just around the corner and we will be getting rid of our gym sweat pants into shorts and bathing suits.
Due to the flood at Wakefield Plantation Country Club in January we had to cancel our Blue Water Spa speakers and luncheon.
However I am pleased to announce they will be able to join us for our April luncheon. Our professionals will be Kandi who is a body specialist who is well versed in treatments such as Coolsculpting, Emsculpting and Endermologie that work to burn away stubborn fat, build muscle mass and reduce cellulite for your 2023 body goals.
Catherine, the nurse practitioner, is a licensed Medical Professional that has helped clients reverse time with Botox and Filler.
I asked that they have plenty of before and after pictures to inspire us.

Luncheon Registration

WWC Member Speakers

Would you like to be a speaker at one of our luncheons? We will have one member speaker per year (randomly chosen) and we are accepting applications for next year’s presenters now through May 30th.

We are looking for speakers who engage and entertain or share knowledge about something of interest to many of our members. Speakers do not sell services or items at the luncheon; however, business cards or flyers/brochures can be available for interested members.

Speakers have 30 minutes to speak plus 5-10 minutes to answer any questions. They can use slides, videos, props, etc., but they must notify the First VP of their equipment needs at least 10 days before the luncheon.

The WWC Executive Board will randomly choose a speaker from submitted applications and review and approve it. Then we will notify you of the months that are open for luncheon speakers. If you are chosen, you may not apply again for 5 years.

Application LINK below.

Community Update

Mary Beth Cristinziano & Karen Toth

Thank you again for March's donation of $300 to the Tri Area Food Ministry.

We collected over 70 pairs of new socks and undies for kids of all ages for Note in the Pocket.

For the month of April, we will be holding a “Wash Up Wednesday” collection of TRAVEL SIZE body wash, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and powder to contribute to SOAR, an organization that makes hygiene kits for homeless youth. If you’re at the store, pick something up to contribute to this great cause! Or, if you won’t make the luncheon, you can donate by ordering on their site straight from Amazon. You can find a wishlist here https://www.soaroutreach.com/hygiene-donation-drive/

We will also be collecting gently used clothing and accessories for InterAct, so if you are spring cleaning, remember this worthy cause.

Thank you for all of your generosity - Karen and I are so excited to deliver all these much needed things to our local charities!!

Theater News from Mary Beth!

  • We have an upcoming performance right here in Wake Forest! Let’s get together on Saturday April 1st at 4pm at Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for a performance by Raleigh’s Master Chorale. They will be singing the songs of Broadway, including a medleys from My Fair Lady and Guys and Dolls and a celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber. They will be accompanied by the Raleigh Chamber Orchestra.

  • On Wednesday, April 5th we are going to Les Miserables at DPAC at 7:30pm. My husband is joining me for this one, so bring a spouse or come with a friend (or stag, if you prefer). We will make a reservation at a nearby restaurant at 5:30pm so you are welcome to join for dinner, too!

  • On Sunday, April 16th we will head to Duke Energy Center for the opera Porgy and Bess at 2pm. We all know the beautiful song “Summertime...and the livin’ is easy....fish are jumpin’....and the cotton is high” This is sure to be a beautiful opera and if you join us I will send information about the show and the performers.

Contact Mary Beth Cristinziano if you are interested in attending any of these performances!
