The inaugural column, coming in a couple of weeks, marks National First-generation College Student Day on November 8. COMMITTEE UPDATES
One of the benefits that OCBC investors share is the opportunity to attend committee meetings featuring key community leaders giving progress updates and ideas on how public and private sectors can collaborate.
Government Affairs Committee
OCBC’s Government Affairs Committee welcomed Senator Josh Newman and Assemblymember Tom Daly for crucial conversations on how to best amplify the Orange County business community’s voice now that the dust has settled from this year’s eventful legislative session. Thank you, Senator Newman and Assemblymember Daly for speaking with business leaders on some of the most important business issues affecting Orange County!
Economic Development Committee
On September 21, the Economic Development Committee hosted Tre Bradley, Deputy Director of Sustainable Freight and Supply Chain Development with the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). Tre gave updates regarding the current outlook of freight and ports and the state’s recent substantial investment into these systems to mitigate back logs experienced during the pandemic. Specifically, California has developed large incentive programs for electric trucking vehicles by investing a historic $2.3 billion in our ports. Tre attributes much of the current supply chain disruptions to AB 5, a law impacting truck drivers to be independent contractors, clean truck standards, and serious labor shortages in the truck driving and rail industry. The Deputy Director also discussed how California is exploring supply chains for rare earth minerals such as lithium and boron, minerals crucial to computer and clean energy technology.
