A Note from the Pastor
I can hardly believe that it's September! Summer has flown by!
There are many opportunities for worship, nurture, and service planned for this fall- from weekly youth group, to 150th celebrations, to weekly worship services, and everything in between. This week's e-press is full of information! Have your calendar nearby as you read on.
We will celebrate communion in worship this Sunday, in-person and online. If you're worshipping at home, be sure to have communion elements ready. In person, we use prepackaged communion elements. If you're worshipping at home and would like to use the prepackaged communion elements, please contact Lisa Carter to arrange a pick-up.
Peace,
Pastor Rosy

HANDBELL REHEARSALS RESUME
Wednesday, Sept 8
Calling all musicians in search of musical fun and service! Youth and adults with any kind of music-reading experience (think piano, band, orchestra, choir…) are cordially invited to participate in FPCR’s Ruth Greer Handbell Choir. Rehearsal time is Wednesdays, 5:45-7:00PM, and our friendly group of ringers is ready to welcome new folks and help you “get a grip” on handbell basics. Mask and distance protocols will be in place for a safe environment.
If you (or someone you know) want to chime in or have any questions, give Director Becky (Bell) Lormor a ring (or text) at 214-704-2593, or email becky@fpcrichardson.org.

150th CELEBRATION!
October 2-3
Saturday, October 2: 150 Hours of Service
As we look forward to celebrating our 150 year anniversary on Oct. 3, we would like to give our congregation an opportunity and a challenge to reach out to our community. On Oct. 2, we would like to give 150 hours of volunteer service as a congregation. We have a few activities planned (both indoor and outside) and would like suggestions for other opportunities. Please contact Jan Warner or Sarah Wright if you have suggestions.
Sunday, October 3: Heritage Sunday Worship Service
Join us online or in-person for a special Heritage Sunday worship service, as we give thanks to God for 150 (+1) years of worship, nurture, and service.
Sunday, October 3: Lunch on the Lawn
We will celebrate our anniversary with lunch on the front lawn. All are invited. More details to come.
Sunday, October 3: Organ Recital
Immediately following worship and lunch, our own Edwin Walker will play a recital that will feature a variety of fun and engaging music! You won’t want to miss it.

October Organ Recitals
The FPCR music department is proud to announce that repairs and refurbishing of our Reuter Pipe Organ are now complete. It is once again in like new condition, and it looks and sounds fantastic. We have planned three celebratory recitals in October to welcome our organ back to its unadulterated prominence in the life of our music program.
|
|
In addition to the Heritage Sunday Organ Recital on October 3, there will be two additional recitals in October.
On October 10th at 4pm, the Sanctuary Choir, soloists, and professional string ensemble, will join Edwin in a performance of Franz Schubert's delightful Mass in G Major. Like Mozart, Schubert is known for his tuneful melodies and beautiful harmonies.
The third recital on Sunday, October 17th, also at 4pm, will feature guest organist, Michael Conrady. Michael is the organist at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas and we are thrilled that he'll be with us.
The recitals on the 10th and 17th will be followed by receptions designed by Jan Warner and Jeanne Stone. I hope you'll choose to attend at least one, two, or all three of these wonderful recitals. Each will be unique, and the organ will be featured in a variety of ways. I'm very thankful to our session, our pastors, and to you, the members of FPCR, for supporting our music department and for the refurbishing of our magnificent pipe organ. May generations upon generations enjoy its musical grandeur.
Soli Deo Gracias,
Ralph

The Mission Ministry wants to thank the congregation for your contributions to the Caring Fund and the Tools 4 School drive. You have been very generous as always with the following results:
-
The Caring Fund benefits Presbyterian Village North and Grace Presbyterian Hospice to help those whose funds run out continue to receive care. The total donated was $1,550.00.
-
Network requested cash for Tools 4 School since they were in the middle of moving. The total donated was $717.00. Since First Methodist has adopted Mark Twain Elementary and is providing that school with supplies, we gave all donated school supplies to Terrace Elementary. The staff was astonished at the large amount of supplies and expressed gratitude for all of our church’s help.

A PROUD MOMENT FOR FPCR
Aren't you thrilled to know that we now have an active youth group that meets every Sunday night? After all the years of not having a youth group, this is truly an answer to prayer. We have a wonderful team of youth leaders (Mary Margaret Healy, Julie Houpt, Debbie Rowley, Caleb Black, Liz Bross, with Pastor Rosy helping out as well). They have creative ideas and the kids are really responding well. What a great thing to witness!
There is one small issue---these kids like to eat! We feed them dinner every Sunday night. Now, don't stop reading just because you don't want to cook for them. There is another way you can help. Several "angels" have handed over a check to help with those dinners and they were certainly not turned them down. If cooking isn't your thing these days or if delivering meals on a Sunday night just doesn't work for you, feel free to make a small (or large) contribution to our "Meal Fund" and we will buy the food and deliver it for you. You do not have to donate enough to cover an entire meal. If you can only afford $5, that will help. If you can do more, that will be welcome as well. Of course, if you are like Jan Warner, Laurie Wadleigh, Sarah Wright and Linda Yeager who have already offered to feed the youth one night, you are more than welcome to sign up for a specific Sunday night to bring your meal to Fellowship Hall. Please think about it and decide the easiest way for you to help. Then you can call Shirley Latham at 214-460-5551 and she will be happy to plug you in. Checks can be made out to FPC and marked Youth Meal Fund.
Remember to give thanks and pray for our youth and their wonderful adult leaders.
