MY WITCH soars in world premiere!
For our very first outing after being shut down during the pandemic, Snowlion Rep got together with New York's Fat Knight Theater as a co-producer to present the world premiere of John Ahlin's play MY WITCH: Margaret Hamilton's Stories of Maine, Hollywood, and Beyond! starring Jean Tafler as the iconic Maine resident who was unforgettable as the Wicked Witch of the West. The show made its debut on Halloween weekend as the very first production at a brand new performing venue, Meetinghouse Arts, in the heart of downtown Freeport.

The performances were sold out, the actress received standing ovations, and Snowlion Rep produced a gorgeous show. Several local businesses, thrilled to have a professional company presenting theater at the new venue, took out program ads. The audiences were effusive, the board and staff of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport (who run Meetinghouse Arts) were impressed and grateful for the exposure the show brought to their new space, and the whole community turned out to support the venture.

MY WITCH represented the exact kind of show Snowlion Rep seeks to bring to Maine audiences. It was developed by the company through a staged reading and a benefit performance, and went through a thorough rehearsal process with director Al D'Andrea; it concerned a subject matter dear to Mainers, that of the life of Maine resident Ms Margaret Hamilton and stories of her life and career – the setting of the show being her Maine cottage on Cape Island; and it brought together a diverse community, with local businesses and audience members from all over the area taking part - from Freeport, Yarmouth, Falmouth, Portland, Brunswick, even Boothbay! The show then went on to tour in New York State to rave reviews!
Perhaps most meaningfully to us, however, this production provided a way for people to experience a live event once more, to combat the darkness of the pandemic and other worldly concerns, and to come together in the spirit of art and creativity in a celebration of a life well lived. We could not be prouder of our mission and how it was fully achieved in our production of MY WITCH.

NOTABLE HAPPENINGS
Because Snowlion Rep scheduled a three-show season for 2021-22, we were able to offer SEASON SUBSCRIPTIONS, and had a number of takers! Those VIPs receive 15% off of the total ticket price for three shows as well as the seating of their choice, and we get a solid base of supporters – win-win for us all!

Snowlion Rep received a project grant from the Maine Arts Commission to support their work on MY WITCH. This grant was essential to help us offset the impact from the pandemic, in the form of rising costs, revenue losses, and the continuing overhead needed to operate during these challenging times.

Having relocated its offices to Boothbay Harbor, Snowlion Rep is exploring the possibility of bringing a summer theater program to the Boothbay region, which has not had any summer theater offerings since the closure of the famed Boothbay Playhouse. Since there is little infrastructure to support a professional theater, we are looking at alternative spaces, while also learning about the needs and wants of the local populace as we consider if such a program is feasible.

So much good news, but as always, WE STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT! The pandemic continues to present challenges for the company - grants provide only a portion of the costs to operate. If you take a moment to send us a much needed tax-deductible donation, we can continue our mission of bringing new works of cultural, ethical, and spiritual value to audiences in Maine and beyond.
And please know how GRATEFUL we are to have your continued support.
EARTH, without ART, is only 'eh' so THANK YOU for helping us make art
to bring light to all!

Snowlion Rep is following the example of area theaters and asking patrons to provide proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test when arriving at the theater, as well as to wear masks inside our facilities at all times. Our cast and staff are all fully vaccinated and masked when not actually performing.
We want everyone to feel safe at our performances. If our policy changes and any restrictions are lifted, we will let our audiences know.
We ask for your understanding as we navigate these difficult times. We are looking forward to continuing to present live performances, and we can't wait to SEE YOU AT THE THEATER!
