Dear Yi,

As the dramatic months before the election unfold, the wheels continue to turn toward single-payer health care in California. The current official vehicle designed to move us closer to our goal is SB 770--Unified Health Care Financing System, signed by Gov. Newsom last year.

Please see the announcement below from the state Health and Human Services Agency about the first public Zoom webinar on the work done to date.

SB 770 (Chapter 412, Statutes of 2023) requires the California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS), to develop a federal waiver framework for and submit a report on, unified health care financing system in California, in consultation with stakeholders. CalHHS has contracted with the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research to conduct research and draft an Interim Report.

Save Friday, August 30th, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, for a public webinar where the UCLA team will present their initial research and key design issues discussion. This public meeting will be held virtually and provides an opportunity for participants to provide input for the Interim Report.

Members of the public may register here to participate via Zoom.

Additional public feedback may be provided in writing by email to: SB770publiccomment@chhs.ca.gov

Navigating Today's Health Care

This 5-part series offers a line-up of experts to inform, encourage, and inspire those of us who have made it to a relatively advanced age. Included is a doctor's presentation on the importance of preserving Original Medicare.

Until we have universal health care, navigating health care will remain difficult for many seniors. Ashby Village Healthy Aging and Elder Action will present the series starting in September. Take a good look at the sessions assembled by this San Francisco Bay area organization and see what interests you. Mark your calendar now!

November 5th Is Just Around the Corner!

It's coming and it's consequential. But you already knew that. And what we all know is that many citizens are not yet signed up and ready to vote. A huge warm hug to everyone who is working hard to ensure our democracy--and the potential for universal health care in our country.

Note, on our endorsement page you find candidates for the state legislature who have been endorsed by the HCA Board of Directors.

In solidarity and with gratitude,

Devra Dallman, Chair
