You Are the One!

In 2 Samuel Chapter 12, the prophet Nathan brings a very uncomfortable and unwelcome word of correction to King David. It is courageous of him, and David responds with remorse, contrition, and confession.

There are times when we are called upon to deliver an unwelcome and uncomfortable truth to someone, even if that person has some kind of authority over us. Just as Nathan knew that God was with him when he spoke to David, we can be certain that God will not abandon us in a similar situation.

My prayer is that we will have clarity about when we need to speak such a word, humility and grace as we speak it, and the peace and community of the Holy Spirit when we’re finished. May God bless each of you richly.

Communion and Contemplation Sunday in the Chapel

8:30 am August 11th

Join Pastor John in a different kind of worship experience: a 30 minute service providing immersion in some reflective music, prayer, silence, and a spiritual practice contemplating the Sunday Scriptures and themes (that will also be part of the 9:30 am sanctuary worship), and then closing with communion by coming forward to receive elements. This worship opportunity may serve as a quiet preparation time for the 9:30 am worship in the sanctuary or may serve as your primary worship experience in community on a Sunday morning. Come, and see!

2nd and 4th Sunday of every month

Pastor Michael Update and Prayers

Pastor Michael shares his gratitude for all the ways people have been expressing love and concern and care. His healing journey is slow, but there is progress. He is still hoping to return to some work by mid-August and preach/lead worship the last two Sundays in August, but also recognizes that even then he will not be at full capacity (typical recovery time for this surgery is said to be four to six weeks and he is just today finishing his second week post-surgery). Thank you for your continuing prayers.

If you would like to mail him a card, please send it to the church at 6801 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson, 85704. If you prefer, you can bring a card (or food and/or a gift), to the office during the work week (Mon-Thurs, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm) or leave them on the table in the church entrance on Sundays. Items will be delivered to him during the week.

Summer Community Time: Going Deeper

Thanks to a church member who shared an idea for connecting with one another this summer when the “regular” refreshment-filled community time is on hiatus on all but the fourth Sunday each month. They suggested this creates space to consider more intentional and intimate relationship-building through things like: invite someone to go for a coffee/breakfast after worship, invite someone over to your place for some post-worship conversation and refreshments, bring a thermos of coffee and a few cups and invite some folk to sit in the shade somewhere and visit a bit, go together for a stroll at Tohono Chul nearby in the lush plant life and air-conditioned galleries, arrange a post-worship Zoom and coffee with some people who are scattered about the country. What might you try this summer?
