Dear Rittenhouse Women’s Wellness Center Community,

Many of us, including me, are struggling right now- feeling angry, scared, anxious and sad about the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and worried about what might happen in Pennsylvania. In the 23 years since I started medical school, never once have I had a single conversation with another physician or provider about abortion rights. This isn’t because I haven’t established relationships with them or because I don’t care about them- but because my personal and/or religious views are not part of the way I care for patients. This holds true for our entire practice and hopefully almost all healthcare providers.

When we started the practice 15 years ago, we created a place focused on the unique healthcare needs of women. At the time, I was motivated by my desire to provide primary care for women that addresses their unique needs at every stage of their lives. I didn’t think that you could provide primary care for women without integrating reproductive care, sexual health and the impact that hormones have on our health and wellbeing. Fifteen years later- this still holds true.

As women's healthcare providers, our position is that all people have a right to patient privacy and autonomy over their own bodies. Every person should be free to choose if, when and how they become a parent. We remain committed to providing education, support and access to women’s primary care, gynecology and family-building care. In the coming weeks and months we will be working on how we can better deliver these services to all of our patients.

Thank you for being part of our community.
