Attention 8th Grade Families,
High School offers have now been made available and you can access them in your Myschools account and/or the guidance department can assist you in receiving an offer letter.
Please see the information below from HS Enrollment:
When viewing your child’s high school results, you will be able to see the following:
-High School results-including LaGuardia and your child’s SHSAT score if applicable
-Highlights how to opt out if your child is not attending a NYC public high school.
-Lists programs your child is automatically waitlisted for
-Also your child’s score/group and admissions position for screened schools
Below are the possibilities for students in the results letter:
Scenario 1-student gets an offer from the High School application with 12 choices; no SHSAT/Laguardia offer if applicable.
Scenario 2-student gets a Specialized High School offer, and no other offer from HS application.
Scenario 3-student gets a Specialized High School offer and a High School application offer from one of their 12 choices. Families must make a decision by April 5th for which seat they will choose.
Scenario 4-student does not get any offer from their 12 choice High School application or a Specialized High School. The student will be assigned a high school by the DOE with seats available that are based upon home address (this can be a commute of up to 75 mins).
Waitlists
You will get a new randomized number for waitlists. Students that do not get their first choice will be automatically placed on a waitlist for the other schools on their high school application list. For example, if a student is matched to their 3rd choice high school on their application, they will then be automatically put on the waitlist for choices 1 and 2.
Families can add their child to waitlists for other schools that were not on their HS application previously. ***If you plan to do so, please add your child as soon as possible since this is time stamped.
In Myschools, you will be able to see your position on each school’s waitlist in real time. Your position in any school waitlist can shift daily and this will change often as seats are offered and/or declined. Waitlists positions can change because:
-A new student joins the waitlist in a higher priority group than other students. For example, if a high school gives priority to continuing 8th grade students.
-A student is in a higher group (screened schools) during the high school application, but not automatically on the waitlist and they choose to add themselves to the waitlist. For example, a student joins the waitlist with higher grades - group.
Some schools will not be able to offer any seats to waitlist students because all seats are full.
If a high school is going to offer a seat to a student on the waitlist, the school will reach out to the family directly by the email address in your Myschools account and/or by phone, and the status of the offer can also be viewed in your Myschools account. Families can then accept or decline an offer. Families will have about one week to make their decision.
