Mason's premier golf scramble, the MACC Golf Classic is presented by Oracle Financial Solutions. This golf outing attracts many golfers each year. The outing runs on three 9-hole courses simultaneously and is a great opportunity for members, guests, and volunteers to network and conduct business in a relaxed, fun environment. Again, this year, a portion of the net proceeds of the MACC Golf Classic will benefit the MACC Agnes "Aggie" Corner Scholarship Fund for Community Volunteerism.

The 49th Annual MACC Golf Classic includes 18 holes of golf with cart, continental breakfast, lunch at-the-turn, golfer's "goodie bag", beer and wine on the course, pop and water, and door prizes. The event is $75 per golfer. Your registration will contribute to the MACC's fund balance allowing us to continue bringing free public events such as our Thursday Night Live Concert Series, Independence Day Parade, Holidays Light Parade, and Small Business Saturday "Cocoa on the Corner" to downtown Mason.

Registration is open now, so get those teams registered and come have a great day of golfing.

NEWS OF OUR MEMBERS!
Mason Public Schools Selects New Superintendent, Dr. Gary Kinzer
Mason Public Schools Selects New Superintendent, Dr. Gary Kinzer (Mason, MI) On June 1, the Mason Public Schools Board (MPS) of Education met with the final three Superintendent candidates. After much input from stakeholders and hearing from all the candidates, the Board voted to offer Dr. Gary Kinzer the position as the next Superintendent of Mason Public Schools. He will join the district officially on July 1, 2022. The Mason Public School’s Board of Education is appreciative to all stakeholders who were able to attend the public meetings and provide input throughout this process. Dr. Kinzer is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Novi Community Schools serving over 900 employees and 6,900 students. In his Human Resources role, he has built positive relationships with district administrators, teachers, secretaries, bus drivers, operations staff, and the Board of Education. He was also part of the team that passed a $185 million bond proposal and is involved in the current construction process. Prior to his time at Novi Community Schools, he served Okemos Public Schools as Principal of Hiawatha Elementary School, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Kinawa Middle School and was also a High School English teacher. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Flint and his masters and doctoral degrees from Michigan State University. Kurt Creamer, MPS Board President states, “Mason Public Schools has had a solid leadership team for many years under Ronald Drzewicki. We were fortunate to have several strong candidates for the superintendent position. Our goal was to find a candidate who would continue the district’s positive momentum and take it to the next level. We believe that Dr. Kinzer was the best choice to move the district forward and we are eager to have him join our team.” Dr. Kinzer will be able to work with current Superintendent, Ronald J. Drzewicki, Ed.S., until his official retirement on August 31, 2022. Dr. Kinzer and his wife, Marcy, live in Okemos with their two children.

Mason Public Schools is committed to academic excellence in a safe environment where students develop critical thinking skills, are empowered to succeed, and are encouraged to serve their community.

July 13 Program Helps Research Your Home’s History
Ever wondered about the history of your home? Come learn about the resources you can use to find your home's rich history. The Mason Area Historical Society program on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., features Rachel Clark, education specialist at the Michigan History Center and will take place at the Mason Area Historical Museum located at 200 E. Oak Street in Mason. The Society will hold a brief monthly meeting prior to the free program in the Virginia Schlichter Auditorium inside the museum. You may tour the museum before and after the event. The museum is also open on Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and admission is always free, thanks to members and generous donors. “I’ve always thought the original part of my own home was built in 1900,” says Doug Klein, president of the MAHS. “But then I found out that many houses are listed as built in 1900 due to a lack of good record keeping systems in the past.” “It's a common approximation used for older properties from before modern building permits were kept on file,” he explains. “So, because of that fact, I’ll be doing more research on the actual age of my own home.” Please be aware that the museum access has temporarily changed. Barnes Street is currently under construction. People should avoid driving on Barnes and should not park on Barnes. The Society suggests entering Oak Street from the east using Rogers Street for northsouth access. "Road Closed" signs are to be regarded as "Closed to Through Traffic" signs. Visitors may use their usual exit door on Oak Street for both entry and exit at this time.

 Mason First United Methodist Church
We are planning a Back to School Jubilee for students from families who might need a little extra help as the kids get ready to return to the classroom in the fall.

We are working with the Elementary school social workers to get names of families who have need, AND we'll provide Capital Area Community Services with flyers, and put flyers out at the mobile home parks. Our goal is to provide at least 100 backpacks with school supplies on a first-reserved, first served basis. If we find we have greater need than we can supply, we will make every effort to resource those needs.

If your organization would like to participate in this event by providing a resource, service, volunteers, or financial support, please just respond to this email (Rev. Suzanne Goodwin) and I'll get you connected with the correct coordinator.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 20 from 10am - 1pm in the parking lot of Mason First United Methodist Church.

If you have wholesale contacts who might be willing to donate or supply items at a reduced cost, please let me know as soon as possible. We'd like to meet the needs of these families especially in these financially trying times!

Thank you for your service and leadership in our community!
Blessings,
Rev. Suzanne Goodwin
