Hello from Haiti!

More Trouble for Haiti

This morning we were greeted with the sad news that Haiti's time of trouble intensifies. According to news reports, President Jovenel Moise was assassinated by mercenaries in his private home at about 1:00AM. His wife was also seriously injured in the attack and is in critical condition. The interim Prime Minister, Dr. Claude Joseph, has assumed the role of interim president.

It is further reported that airports were immediately closed, and the Dominican Republic has moved its military to the border. Prime Minister Joseph has declared the country to be in a state of siege, which is defined by the constitution to be an extraordinary situation when the country is under attack. It allows the military to replace the police for public security, demonstrations and protests are severely limited, military courts replace civilian courts, movement of the population may be restricted, and media may be under government control. This state of siege has a duration of 15 days according to the declaration.

Please Redouble Your Prayers for Haiti

Haiti has been going through very hard times in the last 18 months, with Covid, general civil unrest, and now this. Only God can make a way forward for the people of this struggling country. We shall see what unfolds in the days to come, but we intend to continue all aspects of our mission as it is safe for our staff and friends to continue. Please keep Haiti and this mission in your prayers.
Blessings to all,
