A Message from Mayor Susan Shin Angulo
Dear Neighbor:

Happy Halloween weekend! I hope you all have some fun gatherings and activities planned with family and friends this year, and can take time to enjoy the little moments that wind up meaning so much in life.

Please stay safe this weekend as well. Stay up-to-date on the latest CDC guidance, and keep an eye out for pedestrians on our township roadways, especially during trick-or-treating hours Sunday. The Cherry Hill Police Department is recommending trick-or-treating hours of 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a 7 p.m. curfew for children aged 17 and younger who are not accompanied by an adult. The department will also be assigning extra officers on bicycle to supplement the normal marked and unmarked police vehicles in the neighborhoods.

Of course, I know not everyone is comfortable with trick-or-treating this year, so we have once again designed signs for residents to download and print out. This year's sign is available to download at this link: https://bit.ly/3DKAGoV.

I want to also remind residents that the next quarterly property tax payment and semi-annual commercial sewer rent is due on November 1, 2021. For more information, please contact the Tax Collector's Office at (856) 488-7880 or visit our website by clicking here.

Tuesday, Nov. 2 is the General Election as well, and I have two quick reminders for residents:

  • The County inadvertently listed Arista Care on Chapel Avenue as the polling location on some sample ballots for districts 3 and 8. Arista Care will NOT be a polling location again this year. Districts 3 and 8’s polling location will again be St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church.
  • If your polling location is Cherry Hill East, you will vote in the back gymnasium. Please follow signs for voting and park in the parking lost closest to the gym doors.

Sincerely,

Susan Shin Angulo

Mayor, Councilmembers help dedicate new building for JFCS food pantry
On Thursday morning, Mayor Susan Shin Angulo, Council President David Fleisher and Councilwoman Michele Golkow were thrilled to help Samost Jewish Family & Children's Service cut the ribbon and dedicate their new Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Building/expanded Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry, the only kosher food pantry in South Jersey. The new building, located at 6 East Miami Ave., also includes case management offices, two counseling suites for individual and family counseling, a kitchen that will host nutrition and cooking classes for clients, a healing garden to promote well-being and hopefulness and an outdoor picnic area.

In addition to the food pantry, the Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Program offers clients an array of services, including domestic violence support, veterans' assistance, resource referrals, financial literacy and legal consultations and emergency financial support. At the new building, which is also located close to main public transit assets and has been in the works for more than two years, JFCS will be able to meet the needs of more clients and offer these crucial wraparound services all under one roof.

Congratulations JFCS and thank you for all you do to serve the Cherry Hill and South Jersey community!
Council President, Councilwoman attend Cherry Valley/Peppermill Farms parade
This past weekend, Council President David Fleisher and Councilwoman Carole Roskoph had the pleasure of attending the Cherry Valley/Peppermill Farms Civic Association's annual Halloween parade. From the wonderful costumes to music and games, they had a great time joining in the fun and supporting such a beloved community tradition. Thank you to the Civic Association for their hard work making the event possible!
Mayor, Council honor resident, longtime school nurse for prestigious recognition
At Monday night's Township Council meeting, Mayor and Council honored Cherry Hill resident Robin Cogan, a dedicated school nurse in the city of Camden and a lecturer at Rutgers University-Camden, for being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed in the field.

A school nurse for more than 20 years, Robin has become a leading voice in the field for school nurses and an advocate for children. She is a scholar on issues such as school nursing, population health, and children’s health and safety issues, and she writes a successful blog, “The Relentless School Nurse,” where she also talks about the role school nurses play in helping democratize health equity for underserved and under-resourced communities. Congratulations Robin!
Property Tax Payment Reminder
This is a courtesy reminder that the next quarterly property tax payment and semi-annual commercial sewer rent is due on November 1, 2021.

There is a 10-day grace period for payments. If the 10th day falls on a weekend or holiday, the grace period extends to the next business day. Payments made after the close of business on the last day of the grace period will accrue interest dating back to the original due date.

• Tax payments are due August 1, November 1, February 1 and May 1.
• Residential sewer rent is due on April 1.
• Commercial sewer rent is due on November 1 and May 1.

Cherry Hill Police Department Releases Trick or Treating Information
Cherry Hill Township is ready for Halloween! Since the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, trick-or-treating hours will begin early and run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31. The Cherry Hill Police Department is recommending a 7 p.m. curfew for children aged 17 and younger who are not accompanied by an adult. The police department will also be assigning extra officers on bicycles to supplement the normal marked and unmarked police vehicles in the neighborhoods. The town recommends following CDC guidelines for safe Halloween celebrations.

Cherry Hill Township also understands not everyone may feel comfortable with trick-or-treating this year, so the township has again designed signs for residents to download and print out.

To download this year's sign, click here. Those who are not interested in participating are asked to place the “Please, No Trick-or-Treaters” sign on windows, doors or other visible areas for trick-or-treaters.

Department of Public Works
Leaf Collection Begins This Week!
🍂 2021 FALL LEAF COLLECTION 🍂

The full leaf collection schedule is available below and under the Public Works section of the Township's homepage, CHNJ.gov, or via this direct link: https://bit.ly/3FmojBe

🏠 If you hire a lawn service for a fall leaf cleanup, please note that they cannot rake
leaves to the curb for municipal collection. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to
ensure their lawn service hauls the leaves away to a disposal facility. Lawn services may haul leaves to the Township’s Kresson Road Ecology Site for disposal; this is a free service. Lawn services should call Public Works at 856 424-4422 for a permit.

🚛 Leaves may be bagged for collection by the Township’s waste hauler, (biodegradable paper bags only), or put into open cans. The Department of Public Works encourages this disposal method as leaves are picked up weekly on your regular trash collection day.

❌ Do not place leaves in the street. Leaves must be placed on the park strip-
(area behind curb or edge of road) or at the front property line.

⏰ Please wait until your neighborhood is posted with leaf collection signs before
raking leaves to the curb.

🚧 Department of Environmental Protection regulations restrict leaves from being
placed within 10 feet of any storm drains.

🌳 Residents may take leaves to the Kresson Road Ecology Site for disposal. Please
call the Department of Public Works for Ecology Site hours and to receive permission to use the site.

❌ Branches or other debris mixed in with leaf piles will not be collected.
Please note that weather conditions can interfere with the leaf collection schedule and a second collection is not always possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at (856) 424-4422.
Ever Wonder, 'Can I Recycle This?' - There's an App for That
Important recycling information from The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection:

Too frequently, the packaging used for some of today's consumer products includes the recycling symbol, a message that the packaging is recyclable or both when in reality the packaging in question is not accepted for recycling in any local recycling programs. While a product's packaging might be recyclable in theory, if no recycling collection program or recycling end markets for the material exist, then the material is not recyclable in practice. This misleading messaging understandably confuses consumers and ultimately leads to the recycling stream being contaminated by unacceptable materials.

When uncertain about the recyclability of an item, always check with your municipal or county recycling website for specific information on what is acceptable in your local program. Consumers can also get this information through the Recycle Coach system. Learn more about recycling at recycle.nj.gov.
