SALUT FROM PRINCIPAL HOLDEN
Dear Normandale Families,
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Normandale. Like you and your students, I am grateful for the hard work and expertise of our Normandale teaching team! Much of the work our classroom teachers, specialists and academic support staff do planning, preparing, translating and teaming goes unseen. To celebrate this work, the PTO has planned a number of special treats over the course of the week. Thank you to the PTO and Allison Olfelt, Liz Seaman, Hattie Priem and Sarah Priest for making Normandale staff feel appreciated!

From coding robots to celebrating a record breaking Read-a-Thon, we have had an amazing year with students in the Media Center. Thank you for all your support during the school year.
Next week will be our last week of Media Center lessons. We start wrapping up the school year with finishing projects, preparing for next year and a book inventory. To make sure that our inventory is accurate, we ask that all library books are due back no later than Friday, May 17. We will be sending out emails and sending home the titles of the books that your student has checked out starting next week.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Are you interested in having your child practice French over the summer? Through the Edina Community Education program, we have Normandale teachers Madame Abdo (K), Madame Thomas (1st), Madame Heffelfinger (2nd), Madame Coldagelli (3rd), and Madame May (4th/5th) teaching our Bonjour Camps! This is a great opportunity for our students to practice their French before the fall.
Registration links and dates for camps are listed below. Please note that the grade level is the grade they will be entering in the fall.
| |
Each spring we compile a list of Normandale staff who are interested in tutoring students over the summer. Please contact Anne Anderson if you would like to receive this list.

I began my studies (3 years) in Paris in the 12th arrondissement and have now been in Bordeaux for 3 years. Bordeaux is my favorite city, and it's where I'd like to live after this experience in the United States. I feel close to my family, even though we don't see each other very often. They can count on me, and I can count on them. Family reunions are always pleasant moments for me, with my parents, my brother and my sister. Above all, I love to travel. Going to museums, visiting monuments or just walking around. I like cycling, reading, going to restaurants, partying... I like playing with children, entertaining them, which is why I'm a summer camp organizer.
|
Favorite Foods: I love to eat, and look forward to discovering the typical or traditional meals of the region.
In The US: I'm really looking forward to getting to know the school and the students. I can't wait to start class with my homeroom teacher. It's going to be an enriching experience and will enable me to acquire not only a professional posture, but also a Franco-American pedagogy.
In Edina, I'd like to discover the culture of this state. I'd like to be able to go to Minneapolis often to enjoy the museums (institute of art for example), the parks... I'd like to see a game, walk by the river and see the falls...Then, I'd like to discover other American states. During vacations or long weekends, I'd like to go to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, New Mexico or even Arizona.

Edina Give and Go provides activity grants to students at Normandale and the other Edina Public School buildings so they can afford to participate in everything from basketball and hockey to after school chess club, choir and theater, to reading & math tutoring to summer camp. Over the past 9 years, Edina Give and Go has provided $1.4 million in activity grants so over 2,400 students in low-income households could participate in activities alongside their peers, helping to close the opportunity gap.
Please consider making a donation to help one more student learn a new skill, discover his or her passion, and gain a sense of belonging. Thank you!

The Edina Education Fund is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the continued academic excellence of the Edina Public Schools.
The Ed Fund secures private, supplemental funding to support valuable education experiences and innovative projects in the Edina Public Schools. Funds raised augment school system revenues that are provided by taxes, state aid, and other parent and student led fundraising efforts. The Ed Fund is necessary to help ensure the caliber of educational programs we have come to expect of the Edina Public Schools. Your support means greater academic opportunities for all students, today and into the future.
We are fortunate to be part of the Edina community that has a strong, valued and well-respected school system. However, to protect and enhance the value of our homes and property and the quality of life we enjoy, we must further invest in our public school system. Edina Education Fund contributes to the development and financial support of district-wide programs within Literacy, STEAM and Mental Health/Wellness Services for all students and staff.
