Nursery Class Spotlight
from Vanessa Chang, Nursery Lead Teacher

The Nursery Class is a wonderful group of children who are growing and learning together! Every day we take a ray of the Sun's bright light, and hold it close, with all our might.

The children are utilizing the playground in many ways, making sand cakes, building houses with heavy pieces of wood, and pushing carts and wagons.

Indoors the children are exploring our many centers: puzzles, books in the quiet corner, block building, drawing, climbing on the slide and playing with dolls make up a good part of our creative free play time.

The children love puppet shows and we end each morning with a story or puppet show to share with friends. We are enjoying our year together and the time is flying by!

Faculty Chair/Head of School Search Update
Dear Washington Waldorf School community,

The Faculty Chair/Head of School Search Committee has been working to identify candidates who have the necessary qualifications to serve as the next Faculty Chair/Head of School of the Washington Waldorf School. At this time, we are pleased to share that we have identified three candidates to move forward in the interview process. While we will begin interviewing candidates in the interest of time, the posting for the position will remain active through the end of January.

Over the next six weeks, the College of Teachers and the Trustees Council will conduct interviews with our impressive slate of candidates. In addition to these interviews, we are inviting the faculty and leadership groups in our community to participate in conversations with the candidates. These groups will have an opportunity to provide feedback on their experiences with the candidates to both the College of Teachers and the Trustees Council.

The Trustees Council has contracted with a consulting firm that has expertise in both K-12 school governance and diversity, equity and inclusion work. They will assist the Trustees Council to support our efforts in bringing this important lens into our interview process and deliberations.

WWS is dedicated to finding an exceptional individual who shares our values, who will build on the Washington Waldorf School’s strong reputation, and who will advance the mission of our school in tandem with the College of Teachers and the Trustees Council. As such, we look forward to sharing more with you after the new year.

Sincerely,

The Faculty Chair/Head of School Search Committee

Vanessa Beckman, Nevin Bender, Valerie LeBlanc, Lezlie Lawson, Maria Monteverde-Jackson and Marilyn Noguera

The Christmas Revels
from Marta Schley (Alum Parent and Former Faculty)

From Dec 10-12 and 17-19, Washington Revels brings The Christmas Revels back to the stage with a story rooted in the history of our region and our nation. The Christmas Revels will be staged in a new venue — the historic Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, MD; and for the first time, the video of a fully staged Christmas Revels production will be released for audiences to watch on demand from Dec 21-Jan 6.

Featuring an all-new theme highlighting American nineteenth-century seasonal traditions, this year’s Christmas Revels transports audiences back to December 1870 in Washington, DC. The holidays have arrived and in the elegant parlor of Senator Hiram Rhodes Revels — the first African American to serve in the U.S. Congress — the household is preparing for a party! With joyous carols, traditional melodies, heartfelt spirituals and toe-tapping dances, guests from all walks of life meet under the Revels family roof. In the midst of this camaraderie the merrymakers also take care of their Yuletide community — welcoming a traveler with an urgent request, seeking out a lost love, and comforting a melancholy man longing for the joy of the season.
