Did you know that there is an exercise program that has been shown to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's
|
|
Treatment is administered in 16 sessions over a single month (four individual 60-minute sessions per week). This protocol was developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson disease. The protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living. This type of practice is necessary to optimize learning and carryover of your better movement into everyday life.
LSVT BIG® has been documented to be effective in the short term in training increased amplitude of limb and body movement (Bigness) in people with Parkinson disease with documented improvements in amplitude (trunk rotation/gait) that generalized to improved speed (upper/lower limbs), balance, and quality of life. In addition, people were able to maintain these improvements when challenged with a dual task.

30-Day Metabolic Reset
JULY 23 - AUGUST 21
|
|
There are a few key things that every successful and sustainable weight loss program must—and must not—have.
Join One. as we welcome back Liz Renaut, PT, DPT, CNS, LDN in July to help you rebuild your entire relationship with food. So many of our clients think they’re doing everything right---exercising, eating well, counting calories, you name it. But the weight just isn’t coming off. Or, if it is, it isn’t staying off.
That’s because it isn’t just about calories-in, calories-out. You can’t lose weight and keep it off simply by eating less and exercising more. You need a metabolic reset, and that’s what Liz will help you to do for 30 days.
- Reset your metabolism with whole, nutrient-dense foods, and a plan.
- Stop being afraid of food and learn how to eat to feel your best.
- No more starving yourself to lose a few pounds only to gain them back.
Cost: $175 (The 30-Day Metabolic Reset group class is normally $350, but Liz is offering half off for first-time clients from One.)

Best exercise options for reducing pain and disability in adults with chronic low back pain: Pilates, strength, core-based and mind-body. A network meta-analysis.
Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy
Published Online: 19 Jun 2022, Volume 0 Issue 0, Pages1-27
This Study was just published demonstrating the power of Pilates for reducing chronic low back pain. If you haven't tried Pilates yet, there is nothing better for helping you to improve core strength with a resulting incredible increase in function and reduction of injury.
Results
We included 118 trials (9710 participants). There were 28 head-to-head comparisons, 7 indirect comparisons for pain, and 8 indirect comparisons for disability. Compared with control, all types of physical exercises were effective for improving pain and disability, except for stretching exercises (for reducing pain) and McKenzie method (for reducing disability). The most effective interventions for reducing pain were: Pilates, mind-body and core-based exercises. The most effective interventions for reducing disability were: Pilates, strength and core-based exercises. On SUCRA analysis, Pilates had the highest likelihood for reducing pain (93%) and disability (98%).
Conclusion
Although most exercise interventions had benefits for managing pain and disability in chronic LBP, the most beneficial programmes were those that included: (i) at least 1-2 sessions/week of Pilates or strength exercises; (ii) sessions of <60 min of core-based, strength or mind-body exercises; and, (iii) training programs from 3 to 9 weeks of Pilates and core-based exercises.

Resiliency- I've got Covid, Now What?
Expanding Test-To-Treat Infrastructure
Many Marylanders have had trouble getting prescriptions filled after they test positive for COVID-19. After their test, residents must see a doctor to get a prescription. They then must find a pharmacy to fill their medicine.
Maryland instead encourages residents to visit one of the state's 88 test-to-treat locations. Patients can get their coronavirus test and related prescription all in one visit.
(In Annapolis we have 3 Test to Treat Sites at our Local CVS stores)
These drugs don't cure COVID-19, but they lessen the severity of the illness. This could reduce the chance of hospitalization.
One of the most common therapeutics is antiviral pills, which disrupt the virus's ability to replicate.

Hearing Your Way to Better Health
Ever notice how music can affect your mood? There’s a growing trend of people who are using this to their advantage. Sound therapy—sometimes known as psychoacoustics—is a holistic technique where gentle music, white noise, or other sounds are used to improve mood, relieve stress, stave off depression or anxiety, and even boost mental capacity. Although research is limited, the practice grew in prominence during the pandemic, when many people were struggling with their mental health but had limited access to traditional therapy methods. Music helps people reach a meditative state and can even prompt your body to release the feel-good hormone serotonin.
