Legislative Update: Policy Deadline Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day for policy committees to hear and report to the floor non-fiscal bills introduced in their house.

CBPA is updating the list of priority legislation impacting the commercial real estate industry as we enter this new phase, and will have more information in next week’s update.

Any questions related to legislation can be directed to CBPA's Senior Director of Government Relations Skyler Wonnacott at swonnacott@cbpa.com.

SB 1103 Passes Senate Judiciary Committee With Amendments

This week, CBPA actively advocated against Senate Bill 1103 (Menjivar; D-Van Nuys) the Detrimental Commercial Lease Mandates bill. CBPA provided opposition testimony and met with every member of the Senate Judiciary Committee to express our concerns. Significant amendments were made to the bill just two hours prior to the committee hearing. The analysis released included 13 pages of amendments, which were agreed upon by Senator Menjivar. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party line vote with all of the democrats giving Senator Menjivar courtesy votes despite not knowing what the new amendments addressed or what the bill specifically now does.

OVERVIEW OF AMENDMENTS

Today CBPA's Board of Directors will meet in Downtown Los Angeles to discuss priority legislation and statewide issues impacting our industry. We're excited to welcome Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and leaders from BOMA Greater Los Angeles as special guests. The day will conclude with a PAC Fundraiser Reception at Bonaventure Brewing Company. Stay tuned for a full recap in next week's update!
