Suicide Prevention Resources from NAMI

Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. Click HERE for suicide prevention resources and information from NAMI. 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers 24/7 access to trained counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. There is a tremendous need, given:

  • In 2020, the U.S. had one death by suicide every 11 minutes.
  • For people ages 10–34, suicide is a leading cause of death.
  • From April 2020 through April 2021, over 100,000 people died from drug overdoses.

Behind each of these data points, there are people, families, and communities who have been impacted. Yet, in the face of these urgent realities, there is hope. The 988 Lifeline helps thousands of struggling people overcome suicidal crises or mental-health-related distress every day.

People can call or text 988 or chat at 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

No matter where you live in the United States, by using 988, you can reach a trained crisis counselor who can help.

Review the 988 Partner Toolkit here, which includes:

  • Key messages
  • FAQs
  • Social Media Resources

Youth, Young Adults and Mental Health

The conditions we create and the experiences we provide for young children affect not just the developing brain, but also other systems in the body, including immune responses and metabolic regulation. Working like a team of skilled athletes, these systems rely on and react to information from the environment and from each other. Together, they perform the functions that are essential for lifelong well-being. Read more HERE.

MPACT's Assertive Communication Fact Sheet

As science shows, the conditions and environments in which children develop affect their lifelong health and educational achievement. This guide from the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard distills three key messages from science that can help guide thinking and policy in a time when innovation has never been more needed in public systems in order to improve both health and learning.
