Consider prepping some kind of May Basket to give away tomorrow … in-person or virtual – to a nearby neighbor or faraway friend…

In some parts of the United States, May baskets are made as part of the May Day tradition, a celebration of Spring that can include activities like a maypole dance. May baskets are small baskets (or cones made of paper) usually filled with flowers or treats, left anonymously on someone’s doorstep.

On this, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we lift up in prayer an Earth and a human community still healing from the horror of those years and that abhorrent evil. We do so both as a contribution to the healing touch we all need, and as a way to never forget….

O God of all, who knows not the temptation to value a human being created in your image differently because of race, creed, gender identity, or status, we cry out to you and ask for your healing touch.

We cannot, we will not forget, the evil and horror visited upon the Jewish people during the season of the Holocaust. May we who bear the responsibility to remember never forget what we discovered we are capable of. May we discover in our love for each other the capacity not just to endure this horror but to eradicate it.

On this day, which we set aside to remember, may we find in the telling of our stories to each other a source of inspiration that leads to hope, to healing, and to an acceptance of the beauty inherent in every child your hand fashions and your breath animates.

Let no new fascism take root.

Let no new potentate or their minions threaten annihilation.

Let no new hatred inspire one more holocaust.

Let our memory of this horror be all that is left of this evil.

AMEN

Worship with Us this Sunday

May 1, 2022 | 10:00am In-person and Facebook Live… later YouTube

Our resurrected Jesus appears to the disciples again, this time at the water. He gives them fishing advice and then cooks them breakfast. Then Jesus asks some very important questions.

It’s a Communion Sunday so we will share in this simple sacred meal.

The first Sunday of the month is also Give-A-Meal Sunday so please bring gifts of non-perishable food items and/or personal care items like peanut butter, tuna, canned fruit (in water not syrup), healthy snacks, shaving cream, shampoo, laundry detergent.

Ponder

We worshipped Jesus instead of following him on his same path. We made Jesus into a mere religion instead of a journey toward union with God and everything else. This shift made us into a religion of “belonging and believing” instead of a religion of transformation. ~Richard Rohr

Humor

Four high schoolers afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire. Much to their relief she smiled and said, "Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper." Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: "First Question: Which tire was flat?"

Mining for Memories

A great opportunity to look back at your life and build relationships now. We share a word or a phrase that might spark a memory - eg. stairs, library, all work and no play, water, train, a fool and their money are soon parted, eyeglasses, button, turn the other cheek.
