Construction Update

Crews continue with bridge work at 143rd Street, 139th Street, 135th Street, Blue Valley Parkway, 119th Street, College Blvd. and I-435. The construction team is also completing significant stretches of new concrete pavement. In the coming weeks, traffic will be shifted onto newly completed pavement between 151st Street and 119th Street. Please be watchful of new traffic patterns as you travel through the corridor. Monitor the project website for the latest information on traffic impacts or sign up for text alerts to receive daily closure notifications.

Example noise wall design

Noise wall construction continues throughout the project area. North of 151st Street, along northbound U.S. 69, crews are working on noise wall foundation construction. Further north, wall construction has progressed to the next step, and nearly all posts have been installed for the walls near 139th Street. Crews will begin installing panels next week in that area. Walls will eventually be painted to match noise walls from past projects in the I-435 and U.S. 69 corridors. The completed noise walls will share a similar aesthetic design as the example noise wall above. All project construction, including noise wall installation, is weather-permitting and is subject to change.

Work Zone Awareness and Safety Pledge Reminder

Work Zone Safety Pledge Badge

We extend a huge thank you to all drivers who have taken our Work Zone Awareness Week Safety Pledge. We appreciate your commitment to safe driving for the protection of yourselves, other drivers and all construction workers. There is still time to take the pledge!

For more information, please visit our project website and click the safety pledge link at the top of the home page. We invite you to share your commitment (and safety pledge badge!) with friends and family. As construction continues, we encourage all drivers to be vigilant, mindful and considerate of construction workers along 69Express and all other work zones.

Behind the Scenes

Crews building MSE walls at Blue Valley Parkway

Over the past year, crews have worked diligently to demolish and rebuild bridges at several locations along U.S. 69. Bridge demolition and reconstruction is an extensive process with multiple steps. In the image above, crews are installing Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining walls. These walls, packed with layers of soil and backfill, help reinforce bridge structures, prepare bridges for heavy loads and increase durability in the case of wear and tear or seismic events.
