News buffs across the country know Mary Ann Bergerson Ahern ’72. And on June 6th, Marquette’s Class of 2022 will have the honor of learning more about one of our most accomplished alumnae.
The Emmy-winning reporter with NBC Chicago has graciously agreed to serve as keynote speaker at the school’s Senior Breakfast held inside the Fremont Ballroom at Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa.
“I have very fond memories of Marquette High School and look forward to celebrating with the graduating class on this important day in their lives,” Bergerson Ahern said.
She has covered some of the most gripping political and religious events affecting our nation since joining NBC Chicago in 1989. During her prodigious career, Bergerson Ahern has chronicled several presidential inaugurations in Washington D.C., the selection of Pope Francis and canonization of pontiffs John XXIII and John Paul II in Rome, and the late Princess Diana’s visit to Chicago.
Bergerson Ahern’s integrity and reputation as an intrepid reporter have made her a popular choice as a panelist for political and religious media issues. She had the bittersweet honor of conducting actor and disability activist Christopher Reeve’s final television interview.
In 2012, Bergerson Ahern was bestowed the Peter Lisagor Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago Headline Club. She graduated with a B.A. degree from John Carroll University before earning two Master’s degrees: one in Education from Northeastern Illinois University and the other in Journalism from Northwestern University.
“Mrs. Bergerson Ahern’s career is one that every journalism student in America should strive to emulate. She embodies fairness and grace while maintaining an unwavering pursuit of truth. We’re very fortunate to have her join us on June 6th and especially proud to call her an alumna and friend of Marquette Catholic High School,” principal Casey Martin said.
Marquette’s Senior Breakfast will begin at 9 am on Monday, June 6th at Blue Chip. The Baccalaureate Mass is scheduled for later that day at 5 pm at St. Mary’s with Commencement to follow at approximately 6:30 pm inside the Richard and Louise Scholl Student Center.
