“With one snip of the scissors today, St. Tammany Parish and the rest of the Northshore just got significantly healthier.”
Those were the words of St. Tammany Health System President and CEO Joan Coffman at the April 26 ribbon cutting of the new St. Tammany Physicians Network primary care clinic in North Covington. And although STHS has been doing a whole lot of ribbon cutting lately as it continues to expand to meet the needs of the community, this one stands out.
That’s because it is not your run-of-the-mill doctor’s office. It is also a doctor factory.
In addition to providing access to quality medical care for more local patients, it is also home to the first-in-the-region St. Tammany Health System/Ochsner Family Medicine Residency Program, which – amid a nationwide shortage of physicians – will train the next generation of family medicine practitioners.
That sort of innovative solution is no small thing, and we couldn’t be more excited to greet the program’s inaugural class of residents upon their arrival in July.
“The realization of years of work and planning, this clinic is a sterling embodiment of our commitment to serving the community, as well as a symbol of the power of the partnership between St. Tammany Health System and Ochsner,” Coffman said. “What a blessing.”
What a blessing, indeed.
It’s not the only one, either. We have been doing a lot of blessing counting around here lately, as illustrated by the stories you’ll find below.
Upon reading them, you will likely agree this is an exciting time for the St. Tammany Health System family – and we couldn’t be happier that you are a part of it.
