Brazil Gateway Webinar Series: Contemporary Comics

Join the Brazil Gateway on June 23 (5-7 PM) for their third and final webinar in this summer's series to learn about Brazil's contemporary comics industry. The two presenters will share changes in the comics industry on how they are now published, bought and read. The discussion will help the audience understand basic questions related to the way the Brazilian population engages with comics. They will present some examples of comics and highlight popular artists currently working in Brazil.

Race, Racism, and Antiracism in the U.S. and Brazil

The Center for Latin American Studies is excited to co-sponsor an upcoming webinar hosted by the Columbus Council on World Affairs.

Antonio Bacelar da Silva’s forthcoming book, Between Brown and Black: Antiracist Activism among Afro-Brazilians, addresses racial inequity by exploring three areas: (1) black consciousness classes, (2) the racial quotas system, and (3) electoral politics. On June 22, 2021 Dr. Bacelar da Silva will discuss the similarities between the racial equity movements in Brazil and the United States and how we can learn from one another.

Call For Papers: Latin America Art and Social Resistance in the Global/Glocal Perspective

The Art Association of Australia & New Zealand (AAANZ) is hosting an online panel on Latin America Art and Social Resistance in the Global/Glocal Perspective from December 8-10, 2021. The theme of this session is art and social resistance in Latin America and Caribbean in the era of post colonialism and global/glocal perspective. They will therefore look at Latin America and Caribbean contemporary artists whose work blends art, politics, democracy, resistance and identity. The deadline to submit a paper is July 30, 2021.
