Dear Members, Guests, & Friends:

The church team/staff provided a warm welcome this past week. Jane and I took time to gather several boxes and begin making the Pastor's Office a welcoming temporary home! The first day in the office was May 1st with a church team/staff meeting! 

After unloading the boxes and stacking bookshelves with books that make me look smarter than I really am, Jane and I visited the Bargain Basket. The visit lasted 60 minutes, two pairs of shoes, and a pair of gloves. As you know, Marco United is making a difference in the community through its ministry supported in part by the Bargain Basket. 

Engaging the Community for Christ has always been a plank in ministry. I am looking forward with excitement to learn about the work and ministry of Marco United, to work with the leadership team of the Executive Committee chaired by Kevin Hennessy, and collaborate with the team/staff to provide engaging worship, enlightening educational events, and supportive pastoral care. 

Rev. Tim Halverson will preach on May 5 and my first Sunday in the pulpit will be Sunday, May 12.

Mission Moment

For the last 8 years, UCMI, the Bargain Basket and Our Daily Bread Food Pantry have had a wonderful partnership that allows us to support our community in so many ways. In fact, each year, one of the first grants the Missions Committee focuses on supporting is Our Daily Bread. The work they do in our community is a blessing. Be sure to read through Maria Lamb's recent article showcasing the awesome generosity and partnership and don't forget to donate your pantry items before heading north for the summer. There are many drop off locations throughout the Island including in our own narthex or Bargain Basket Thrift Shop.

Mother's Day Pancakes

The Social Events Committee will be hosting a Mother's Day breakfast in Disseler Hall following worship on Sunday, May 12th.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP by signing up in the narthex or by calling the church office.

We look forward to celebrating all of the wonderful women in our congregation!

Pardon Our Dust

Summer projects are underway in the church office. Please bear with us as we work to create a new storage closet for our Medical Supply Ministry as well as a new staff break room.

Managed by Wanda, the Medical Supply Ministry provides items such as walkers, wheelchairs, canes, commodes, shower chairs and more to those in need. These items, free of charge, were previously available for pick up at the Bargain Basket Thrift Store but we have found that the ongoing need requires more time and storage than the store is able to handle. If you know of anyone in need of these items be sure to tell them to call our church office. In the last two months, Wanda has given out over 150 medical supply items to community members in need.

Angel Food Ministry

God has called us to be an instrument of His unconditional love and to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, nourishing those in need.

The Angel Food Ministry helps relieve the burden of meal preparation for our church family and Bargain Basket volunteers by allowing them to rest in the knowledge that meals will be provided during times of difficulty.
