And We Have a Bingo!

This past weekend we kicked off our Summer Reading Challenge for children and teens. (Details below.) But adults can get into the fun as well with our Summer Book Bingo Game! Read a book in each of the categories in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line (honor system here!), submit your bingo card at the library and you will be entered into a raffle to win a prize.


Choose your own book for your categories, or read one of our suggestions (which you can see when you click on the category on the Bingo Card.) Let the Game begin!!

Too Hot to ..... Cook!

No one wants to work over a hot stove in the middle of summer. Check out and enjoy our new collection of cookbooks that will help you stay out of the kitchen so you can spend more time at the beach, in your backyard or whereever your summer happy place may be!

Meet the Presidents

In this virtual presentation on Wednesday, July 6, 7:00 pm, discover the evolution of the presidency and executive branch and how presidents have interpreted and fulfilled their leadership role. Presented by The New York Historical Society with hightlights from their Meet the Presidents exhibit. Click here to register. 

Summer Stretching

Chair yoga continues this summer on Wednesdays, at 1:00. (NOTE: This is the correct start time for Summer Chair Yoga. Last week had incorrect information.) Relax, unwind and conquer stress and fatigue in this gentle yet invigorating class, led by Nora LeMorin. First summer session takes place Wednesday, July 6. Click here for full schedule. 

Let's Dance!

Calpulli Mexican Dance workshops for children, teens and adults. (Ages 5 - 7 meet at 1:30 pm, ages 8 - 13 meet at 2:45 pm and teens/adults meet 4:15 pm) begin next Thursday, July 7. Workshops meet weekly through August 11, and participants will be part of a final performance on Thursday, August 16. Join the workshop by attending the first session on July 7. 

International Music and Dance Festival Returns

The New Rochelle Public Library, New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District and the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library are delighted to bring back the renowned International Music and Dance Festival to downtown New Rochelle this summer. Each Tuesday evening, July 12 - August 16, at 7:00 pm.


The series kicks off on Tuesday, July 12. 7:00 pm with Redhawk Native American Dance


Experience an explosion of color and sound in this entertaining and educational performance by a group of Indigenous artists, performance artists and musicians. Registration requested. For the full schedule of performances, click here.

PIC*NIC Party in the Park

The New Rochelle Public Library and New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District are bringing family fun to Ruby Dee Park at Library Green beginning Thursday, July 14, 6:00 pm when City Winds Trio performs live ragtime music. Kids will have fun helping conduct the Trio, and finding dynamics and tempos through movement games. Registration requested.

Hurray for Hollywood

Examine the forces that made Hollywood the giant of global film-making and the special nature of its achievements during its Golden Age in this virtual program on Thursday, July 14, 7:00 pm


Brian Rose, a professor emeritus at Fordham University will discuss studio politics and economics, the star system, and the nature of the movie-going experience. Register here

July is National Ice Cream Month! We've got the scoop on the best books featuring our favorite summertime treats!

Welcome, Ashley!

Ashley Bressingham has joined NRPL as Librarian II/Children's Room Assistant Supervisor.


Ashley received her Masters of Library Science at Queens College. She joins us from White Plains Public Library where she served as a Youth Services Librarian. 


Ashley is a lifelong lover of libraries – she was taken to her hometown library many times as a child and has worked in them since her high school days. She is passionate about early learning and teaching caregivers techniques to make their children book lovers as well as putting excellent and diverse stories into the hands of the youth.


In her free time, she likes to see Broadway shows, visit museums, and enjoy delicious meals while reading. She loves the beach, board games, and superhero television shows as well as films.


Ashley attended the recent American Libary Association (ALA) conference as part of the 2022 Class of Emerging Leaders. Read her blog post here

Free Covid-19 Test Kits at NRPL



The Library is giving out free at-home Covid-19 test kits. Patrons may receive up to 4 test kits by visiting the first floor information desk during regular library hours. Kits will be distributed as long as supplies last.

Holiday Closing

The New Rochelle Public Library and Huguenot Children's Library will be closed for Independence Day on Monday, July 4th, but our digital resources are available 24/7!

Teen Scene

Beat the Heat

The teen water balloon fight is tomorrow, Friday, July 1, 3:00 - 5:00 pm (or as long as the balloons last) in the Children's Garden. Teens must enter through the parking lot gate around the building.


For saftey reasons, the program is only open to tweens and teens entering grades 6 - 12. Thank you for your cooperation. 

Got Video Games???

Our Teen librarian is starting a new video game collection for teens and is looking for donations of new or gently used games. If you have any games for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch consoles that you'd like to donate, please drop them  off at the 2nd floor reference desk at the Main Library  . Ratings range should be Everyone, Everyone 10+, and Teen. THANK YOU!

Keep Reading

Summer Reading registration is open for teens (those entering grade 6 - 12.) Registratin can be done online or  in-person at the 2nd floor reference desk.


Grab & Go Summer Reading Bags are also available to be picked up at the 2nd floor reference desk underneath the newspapers. They are available while supplies last. Yes, parents can pick up for their teen. 

Interested in Becoming a US Citizen?

Learn the process to become a citizen and prepare for the naturalization interview and test. Classes take place virtually, Thursdays, July 7 and 21, 7:00 pm. Register here, or call 914-813-3703.
