Children's Church during the Sermon

THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately,

love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

I’m wondering, if after reading these true words, if you heard that wonderful, old familiar melody in your mind?  I’m also wondering if you can count all your blessings.  Blessings come in all shapes and sizes; some are anonymous, and some are signed. Some blessings are divine, and some are challenges that grow us in into a mature faith.

Teresa and I had a wonderful week off. We had fair winds and following seas! We shared a week of relaxing and making new friends onboard a ship named, “The Breeze.” It’s always a blessing to get away and an even greater blessing to return home.

Blessings don’t depend upon perfection or feelings but upon recognizing that in a very imperfect world there are those who bless us with friendship, love, and kind actions. Jesus offers us friendship and love. His kind actions have changed us for ever because we have received amazing grace through his unbelievable sacrifice for us. We are blessed indeed.

As you bless others this week, let them know that you love and care for them because you have been loved and cared for by our Lord and that you are simply sharing His love with them.  First Methodist Church (our members) should always be known for being a blessing to our community in the name of Jesus Christ! It all begins with “Love First.”  Bless on my friends, bless on as you have been blessed! See ya Sunday.

“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind, and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

Have you ever tried to recreate your grandmother’s favorite recipe, putting all the ingredients you were certain she put in, but when the cake came out of the oven, it just didn’t taste right? Then, you finally found her handwritten recipe tucked between the pages of the cookbook, and you had that

“ahh ha” moment as you realized she used molasses instead of corn syrup. Life is like this for us sometimes. We think we’ve made the right decision based on things we thought we remembered

from the Bible. Then we discover that our Lord reminds us, more than once, not to lean on our own understanding, because sometimes our thinking becomes clouded by the world around us. Our God

is good, though. He gently reminds us not to rely on our own thoughts, but to trust solely in Him.

The results are that He will then guard our hearts and our minds as we grow confident that His path is always the right path. Thank you, Lord, for strengthening us the more we learn to trust in You. Help us to walk in Your ways, reading and taking Your Holy Word into our hearts and minds. We look forward to the day when we will live with You forever and ever in heaven, Amen.
