Hike, Bike and Bark Raises Record $61,629!

Community Care Northumberland’s is very pleased to announce that Hike Bike and Bark raised a record $61,629.00 to support Hospice services. An amazing accomplishment, exceeding our goal of $45,000 by more than $15,000!

“The funds raised through Hike Bike and Bark are critical to the hospice care we provide, at no cost to individuals, whether you are living in your home in the community or while a resident at Ed’s House.” states Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland. “Many thanks go out to all our generous sponsors, donors, participants and to the dedicated members of our Special Events Committee for all their efforts in making this event such a tremendous success.”

Hike Bike and Bark was a hybrid event that kicked off on August 27th and ran until September 10th. Participants chose to hike, ride their bike, or go for a walk with their furry friend. At the wrap up pancake breakfast held at Ed’s House on September 10th it was announced that Selena Forsyth was the top individual fundraiser raising over $9,000 and top individual team was the “Gazelles” lead by Jennifer Darrell raising over $15,000.

Friday is the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation

Each year, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

The imagery has powerful meaning. The circle is at the centre, which represents being together in spirit of reconciliation. The orange colour represents truth-telling and healing. The pathway represents the road to reconciliation. First Nations are represented by the Eagle. The Narwal represents the Inuit, and Métis are represented by the Beaded Flower.

In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, we acknowledge that we are all a part of building good relations.

We are all Treaty people.
